do not spend that stimulus check just yet

let me get this right. Obama is going to give a tax break to low income Americans. 400 for single and 800 for couples. And at the same time he is going to charge a carbon tax on energy producers. Who will pass that tax on to the consumer. "Gollies Andy. That is some fine uptown tax scheme he has going on in DC" .

so in a nut. you better save the stimulus check and apply it into the future. The electric bill will be going up.

What a fine group of americans voted for Obama. I love you azzholes !!!!!!!!!!!!

So you mean he is going to create an incentive for people to actually conserve energy? Wow, what an 'azzhole'!

To the guy who's electric bill already went up - you have a serious gripe with the co that raised your rates before their costs went up. Talk about opportunism.

Another way to look at this. The plan is to give you back more of your tax dollars and let you figure out whether you want to spend it on energy. Sounds like something right out of the Republican talking points.

There not much figuring about it....it's being FORCED to decide whether we spend it on energy.

The worst part is we have a perfectly viable form of energy(Nuclear) chomping at the bit, and in order to play to the global warming and energy is finite crowd we're not using it. Thanks special interest, my wallet appreciates it.

The energy independence crowd is for anything but energy independence. They only want us to have the energy that they deem necessary or "green". Another example of the "experts" in Washington getting involved where they don't belong.

Iguana...C'mon now.....you know more about economics and investing than I ever will and I'm sure you can recognize an indirect tax on the public when you see one. It's no secret that the carbon credit tax WILL be passed along to the consumer. This is no way an "incentive" to conserve energy.....it's a plain and simple indirect tax.

Now I'm all for that nuclear energy thing....it's a shame nuclear can not get Washington's attention with the greenest (and cheapest) form of electric generation besides hydro....

Actually, there will be a lot of citizens getting dollars that can't really be called their tax dollars, as they have no tax liability to begin with. Chances are they have assistance toward their electric bill, to add insult to injury.

    Defeat

the carbon tax. Obama is out of touch with most of us on this site.

But when ACORN gets a good part of the stimulus plan, look for a second term.

Brown of the UK is looking for a bailout.

I hear you all and my response is a bit disingenous. My intent is to point out how flawed the logic in the original post is. I don't actually think either policy will really do much, but linking them together in an arbitrary manner to support a preconceived notion and then calling 1/2 the country 'azzholes' is what started this.

My proposal. Lets just agree to stop all the politics stuff and namecalling. This is a good site, lets keep it that way. I am going to do my best to only criticize issues and not the poster even if it wears out my backspace key in the process.

FWIW, I do think a carbon tax is the best proposal I have heard so far to reduce the dependence on foreign oil as well as deal with (man made) climate change which I do believe is happening. I also think nuclear is our best near term option. My understanding of the issues with nuclear are that the local politics are the main problem, but I don't actually know much and would be interested to hear more on what is holding it back (besides the 10 year cycle to build plants).
