Do I need to use a thimble in rope eye splice?

I'm making angler safety lines and was wondering if I should use a thimble for the splice at the snap. Do I need to worry about the eye of the snap cutting through 7/16 double braid rope with a shock load? Thanks for any advice.

IMO- no. There shouldn't be that much pressure on the connection to cause the chaffing in the line, which is all the thimble's function is. Unless you want the whipped end to look "prettier" I'd say don't waste the thimble or your money.
