Fishing for us started in the early 70's when I was 8 yrs old. We docked out of Claytons's Marina off Smith Creek right down the road from schiebels fishing center (sp). Every weekend started waking up early and going to a local fishermans house for a bushel of fresh ground chum. I still remember that aweful smell. And then a short trip up the river and passed point lookout to the middle grounds and target ship. We had a 30 ft Trojen by the name of AMAMBAY. Had some good friends that we lost touch with over the years. one was John on his silverton. Had two boys and they could really whack the blues. Another was a man by the name of Capt Curtis who ran an old classic looking wood boat that was spotless. He was probably the best charter guy in our marina and I probably drove him nuts with all my questions every weekend. I use to nail bottle caps to a piece of wood and scale his customers fish. Then their was big Don who ran a 36 wooden tiffany. And also a spanish dude who had a boat called Mi Amour. Great memories.

I started on a 24 foot yellow Slickcraft called the Big Mistake. It was docked in Fair Haven NJ for quite a few years. I can't remember the name of that marina. Then we moved to Keyport Marine Basin for a couple more years with that boat. About 5 or 6 years ago we sold the original Big Mistake and purchased a 1987 Aquasport 290XF. The current boat's name is Another Big Mistake. She is a white boat with a hardtop and outriggers. I have pictures posted in the "Show Your Boat" thread. We are currently docked at Pederson's Marina in Keyport, NJ. We have always fished the Raritan bay. Usually on The Reach Channel for the inshore species. We fish the Sandy Hook rips for Stripers in the fall. We have also visited the Mud Hole and the Barnegat Ridge looking for the tuna. This boat has also been down to Avalon, NJ. We usually rent a large, obnoxiously blue house for a couple of weeks and we have the boat at the house's dock. We usually leave a day early and stay overnight at the Avalon Anchorage Marina. While down there we have fished the Sea Isle Ridge, 19 Fathom Lump, Masseys, and some I can't remember.

I have also fished on my friend's 40 foot Ocean Sport Fish named the Weathermaker. That boat was docked at their house in Brick, NJ. I fished the 2005 Ocean/Viking Showdown with them on that boat. For that tournament we were at the Canyon Club in Cape May, A Dock slip 3. We had a professional captain for this event and I only know his first name, Bruce. I wish I knew his last name because he was a first class captain. Check my photo gallery and look the pics from that tournament if you think you might know who he is. If you do let me know

It would be interesting to see if I have crossed paths with anyone

In the Mid seventies I was just plain ol Paulie working on almost all the party boats in Atlantic Highlands. Late seventies found me first at Pompano aboard the Helen S fleet then at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo fishing on the Ginco V, Sea Elf, Fiesta, Gasparilla and first C- Gull. There the nickname was Sailfish Sam (short for Sambo) (Don't ask)Summers found me in Manasquan on Boundless, Joint Venture and Omar or also on one of now two C-Gulls.
Early eighties had me now running three C-Gulls and Joint Venture III along woth a ton of free lance work. That was out of Whale Harbor in Islamorada and again Manasquan. Mid eighties had me still doing that but added St. Thomas for two seasons. Late eighties had me working for Tuppens of the Palm Beaches in boat sales and running tournament boats and Demos. Very early nineties I was the head lure man at Murray Brothers and was their tourney hire out also still running two of the C-Gulls and a C- Shell..
1992 I became Compleat Angler with my own lure company. Though I had to suppliment income by repo work for an appliance company, C-Gull was still under me along with several free lance boats. It stayed that way til, 2001 when I was now well sober when I first went on line. Reel Delight from Ocean City was my northern ride along with Gold Rush at Cape May and Cammys Dad from Atlantic Highlands.
Deep C joined the family in 2005 and I turned up the heat getting back into more tournies on various boats...

Places me and my dad have been, lets see.

Dad Had a 27 Owens called "Maddie's Ring" in the early 70's would have been in Cape May, Wildwood Yacht Basin and throughout South Jersey.

Around 73 he bought a 33 Silverton called the "Miss Portugal." Same general locations.

Around 75 or 76 he bought a 36 trojan called the "Fine and Dandy" kept her at the Conquistador on the Cohansee (sorry about the spelling) River in NJ, and first began doing 2 to 3 weeks in OC at Dorchester and talbot street.

From 1979 to 1982 dad had a 40 foot trawler called "A Bunch A Ship" that he kept at a Variety of places in NJ and MD, not limited to Joe's Marina on the Big Timber Creek, McDaniels in Northeast, MD, and Jackson's Marina.

In 1983 Dad bought the "Last Call" a 46 Post that we still have today. LEts see, in OC 1983 to 85 White Marlin Marina, 1986 and 87 ShantyTown (now OCFC), 1988 to 2004 Bahia Marina, 2005 to present OCFC.

Other Places the Last Call has been: Whale Harbor in Islamorada (captained by Jay Champlin with Dad helping out on weekends) 1985,86, Holiday Isle in Islamorada 1987 (with Carlos Delvalle), Ocean Reef in 1989,90 (with Jay) and Holiday 100 in Key Largo in 1992 (with Tom Hamilton), Bud-n-Mary's December of 04, MHC in the winters of 2006 and 2007, and Hacienda Del Mar in Cancun in winter of 2005.

Other boats and places I have been,
Sailfish Marina for Dec and Jan in 96 and 97 aboard the Reel Tease with Jay Champlin

Hacienda Del Mar March through May 97 with the Reel Tease, Jan Through May in 98 and 99 on the Inger with Ed Berger, and Briefly in 2000 with Eric Blanks on the Ravenous (and obviously when the Last Call was there)

Casa Margullia in Venezuela October through December in 97 and 98 on The reel tease, and October of 99 with the Ravenous

Marsh Harbour and Harbour Island for May of 97 with the Inger.

Some Places I have visited along the way with a variety of characters aboard the Ravenous, The Reel Tease, and the Wired: Cabo San Lucas, Barre De Navidad, Zihautenejo, Huatulco, Guatemala, Los Suenos, Golfito, Hurricane Hole, S. Caicos, Provo, Punta Cana, Long Island (Bahamas), Aruba, Bon Aire, Kingston- Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Puerto Real in Puerto Rico, Puerto Aventuras, Kona (on the Marlin Magic with Marlin Parker, and the Janet B with Kenny Llanes), Cairns/Cooktown in OZ (with Capt. Ross on the Top Shot) and a few others I am sure that I am forgetting. All of these were brief visits during deliveries, or brief fishing trips/vacations.

Hatterized, my dad bought a family summer place in 1954 (i would have been 3) in Shadyside Md. right off Parrish Creek. My old chart called it Hopkins cove. Broke in on a plank built skiff with a 5hp Jonhson later upgradede to the white "seahorse" model. Fished the western shore from curtis point to ches beach in that rig and over to the mouth of the South river. Dad got the big boat in 1961 (22' Chris sea skiff) and we procedeed to the wild grounds (oyster bottom right off curtis point and over to Gum thickets (drifting eels) and the Bay bridge, stripers. At 14 worked on some clamming rigs in the summer and hung out with the childrens of pound netters. My first was a silvertron 24 lapastrake skiff and ran right out of Dad's place to the same spots with an ocasional trip to Sharp's Is.Had a md. TFL lisc then and trotlined crabbed ,fished (gill nets) , and fished while working through my appreticeship @ IBEW #26. Moved full time to AA county in 1976.Ran a 32' workboat and 550 pots between Thomas and Tolley's point while working nights at Calvert Cliffs. Bought my big boat in 1988 replanked it myself and kept it right ther in Rockhlod creek under the bredge at Toby Welch's place.
started chartering in 1990 cuold'nt get any work on the western so i became an "extra boat" for Buddy Harrison on tilghman Is. by 1991 i had the boat fairly well out fitted (the name was Relative) moved the boat to Ches beach (abner's Crab house )and kept learning. Funny thing about running from there is all those "beach" boats would go south and because i knew my way around up the western shore i would head north unless i was hired out of tilghman.
Never seemed to limit out like the beach boats but always had 7-9 big stripers! Took Relative to smith island in spring of 1992 for a complete strip, c-flex and glas over at L marsh and sons ( featured in Nov. 1992 natl Fisherman Mag). repowered in 1994 and kept on till i moved to ocean pines in 1997. Moved relative to taylor's is and fished out of there till Dec. 2001 planning to bring her to OC. Got hurt (bad) working on it in dec 2001 and i never saw the water with her again. Bought my current boat in June 2002 right after i was starting to walk again and now run inshore / limited offshore out of harbor marine in West OC, Dilligaff Sportfishing. Might have run across you in Deale.
