On the custom side i've fished andy mortenson, rybos, ricky gilliken(east bay), jarrett bay, paul mann, scarborough and paul spencer. These boats to had a personality of there own when it came to raising fish especially where in the spread just as the production boats did. I can tell you that some boats sound better to me than others some have that come hither rumble but that being said i ain't no fish so not sure how it sounds to them. Most custom boats seem to have better sounding harmonics than production boats do. Just go below and listen to the chine ahead of the engine room and you will hear the engine harmonics best hear. I do believe that cutless bearings can make or break your day atleast in my opinion and probably Adrian Hollers (Sea Striker) to. I like to go below deck and listen to my shafts and running gear under the stern from time to time ust to see if i have any tell tail squells going on. All that being said yes i think some boats raise fish better than others but a good captain and crew will make all the difference more so than the boat. Just thought of a couple of good examples here John Bayliss and Mike Merritt both have run production and custom and caught equal amounts of fish hell Bayliss won Pirates Cove one year on a 70 Hatteras enclosed bridge and did very well on several of Bluewater vikings 55 demos.
