Sitting on my boat the other day watching DNR going from boat to boat searching and checking. My Question. By law what is your right about them searching your boat? Can they go thru your cabin and just do a general search?

good question, the CG boarded me 2 weeks ago,asked if i had been boarded this year,looked at safety gear ect..there last question was "whats my SS #" told him he didnt need it and to move on. i guess if someone had alot of time and money you can sue , based on illegal search & seizure but,really..who has that kinda time to waste,same goes with roadblocks under the guise of "seatbelt checks" skirting constitutional rights.

Marine 4003, I was thinking...........I wonder if my insurance policy would reimburse me for a lawsuit for illegal search and seizure, without probable cause, if I were to pursue it when DNR or USCG boards my boat without cause?

BFB what's your take on it? I'm surprised LF hasn't written a 3 page expose on the topic. Maybe if we called it the Obama USCG he might chime in???

Word is World Cat is offering huge rebates on new boats but nobody is interested. I wonder why???

Most of the DNR has been Deputized, for lack of better word, by the Department of Homeland Security. So they is coming aboard. Used to be you did not have to let them on the boat, tell them as the master of the vessel it is not safe for them to board, follow me to my home dock, then mostly they would bother other people.

Being Rebublican used to mean one had distain for excessive govt..then bush turned it into less freedom's..Patriot Act. I think Cheney was running things ,while Bush was playing with shiney things.If the current admin wants to impress me..the'll repeal the PA.it was a farce anyway,didnt do squat ,aside from squander billions on bloated govt programs and less freedom..what a joke.So now DNR thinks its friggin CIA..Great.

I have the "Facitlity Sticker"....CG Aux saftey inspection done every year, displayed on the port side glass...keeps most law enforcement away...and you really don't want to piss off the locals or they'll stop you every time.....like Low Tide....and with a bar like mine....
