    Thumbs up DIY Outboard Training

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending a DIY class given by Jim of Jimmys marine service. Let me start by saying that prior to this class I didnt even know how to take the cowlings off the motor of my engines. Every winter I would pay outrageous prices to service and winterize and pay again when Spring time came. Those days are over thanks to Jim. I would suggest anyone who is interested in learning how to service your outboards (oil change, gear oil, compression test, water pump, lower gear oil, winterizing, etc) get in touch with him. The class was hands on and I felt very confident when it was over. I have absolutely nothing to gain from this post, Im just so appreciative of his effort that I felt the need to pass this information on.

Yes you can save a lot of money, and make sure it's done right by doing it yourself...and as you found out, it isn't hard at all......

At $100/hr for labor I need to finally DIY too. In FLA anyone know a good VoTech program or someone who could give up a day?

The charge was $150. The class ran from 930 until around 500. I was very surprised that there wasnt many people attending. I guess most boaters are either rich or know how to do it.

Do you know if he plans on doing anymore classes soon? This is something that is definetly something useful.
