    Dewalt 18v Impact wrench

It's time to replace the batteries for my 18v Dewalt tools. Batteries alone are $89 or you can buy various tools that come with 2 batteries for $199-- no this is a no brainer.
I have an air impact wrench but there are many times when a portable would come in handy--- if it works well, So the question is--- are they worth a damn?---- if not, I'll get the right angle drill ( another toy I "need").

Try one of he battery.coms, here's one:

    http://www.all-battery.com/18vdewalt...batteries.aspx

They're a little cheaper. Impacts are worth their weight in gold for drilling concrete and tough driving jobs. The battery impacts for whell lug nuts are not worth it. I have Riobi, but I like my Dewalts too. I got a 18 Dewalt battery on one of the .coms for $39 around Christmas, can't remember which one.

Well I would block my responses so the Mrs. can't read the alternatives after you go to bed....sadly I bought the battery, but then justified the Riobi One Plus package to the Mrs. too for mounting shelves on the concrete downstairs....a two for.....I can attest that the skill saw that came with it is really good......

The ion pacs are the way to go.

Remember if a battery loses to much voltage (18nicad) and will not take a charge. Find a good battery and jump in parallel for a few seconds. I believe below 12 volts ..the 18 volt (nicad) gets pissy about holding a charge. Pull out the multimeter and check. Doing this might save you a month or two until you find the right deal on a new combo kit

That's what I undersatand. The new Dewalt 18v batteries are Lithium Ion. I can't complain with the NiCad batteries I have used. I think the 2 I have now are 5 years old and have been used and abused (for a non commercial user).

Impacts are the way to go.

I don't know what kind of projects you are doing but I use a 14 volt impact and it has plenty of power. Not so great for drilling but for driving screws.... holy crap! I can drive a 3 1/2" screw over my head with one hand while standing on a ladder.

Try that with a non impact screw gun.

Mine doesn't have a normal chuck so you really can't put drill bits in it. It is a quick release chuck that takes the 1/4" drive like on the magnetic driver tip holders.

Since I got it.... three of my friends have gotten the same one.

    I have the Makita

Dewalt makes great stuff too so I'm sure theirs is just as good

Just buy the damned impact Glenn. You can borrow my right angle drill, and I don't have a buddy with an impact I can borrow.

I you start thinking responsibly about your "man" purchases, you are going to really start affecting my rationalization for my future impulse pruchases. This is not just about you, ya know.
