Dell Computers almost bought my house

I reached in my computer bag to get something and my work laptop was COOKING.!!!! It was so hot that I could not even hold it in my hands! I sat it on the table like a hot potatoe, flipped it over and took out the battery.

Now it had been off for at least two hours. Even running, it never has gotten hot like that before. 10 minutes later you could stick your hand inside the computer bag and it was still warm.

There is no doubt in my mind that if I had not needed something out of the bag, that it would have caught fire. We were messing around out back and I had just run in to get a phone number, so if it had caught fire, at least we would have been out of the house. Bad part is that I wouldn't have known it until smoke started pouring out.

No more using that one with the battery in. I'm schedule to get a new one soon. Its going to need to be pushed up a little now.

I'm just thankful it didn't happen at night while we were sleeping.

Dell had a recall on a bunch of those batteries a few years ago for that. If you contact them they still may be providing replacements.
