I know a lot of the people on this site have Deisel trucks. I looked on GM and Ford and neither one lists MPG's. Was wondering what a Ford 250 crew cab gets by itself and then pulling a boat. Or a Chevy 2500 deisel same thing. Thanks for the info as I am considering an upgrade from my F-150.Forgot to mention Dodge.

I've got a 2006 GMC 2500HD with the 6.6 LBZ diesel. Stock I got around 19mpg (I think). Right after I bought it though, I upgraded to 285 size tires (33") and it dropped to around 17. Bought a Bully Dog tuner and it went up to 21 mpg at 60 mph. Towing, it drops quite a bit to around 9-12 depending on the size boat you're pulling. I pulled a 35' Triton with trip 250's on it last summer and got about 9 mpg. Not sure the weight on the boat but it's a BEAST. Pulled a 32' Wellcraft and got around 10 mpg or so.

Do some research on the new F250's before you spring into one. Not to bash them or anything but have heard horror stories on the new twin turbo engines. Which ever way you go, you'll notice a decent increase in mileage with the addition of a tuner (Bully Dog, Hypertech, Superchips, etc.). You'll also get a HUGE increase in power but beware of your transmission since you don't want to blow it up.

The new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) is also decreasing mileage. If you can find the Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) at a station, you'll notice about a 1-3 mpg increase. VERY few stations have it anymore but if I find one, I always stop at it when I go by.

    Hope this has helped....

'03 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.6 Duramax gets 17mpg on average. I probably drive it a lot harder than I should. My buddy has the same truck but gas and gets 11mpg.

I just bought a 2008 Chevy 2500HD 4 door short bed with the Duramax Diesel and the Allison Transmission. I haven't taken it on a trip yet, but the Drivers information center on the truck is showing around 17 in town and 23 out on the highway. Hope this helps, but I haven't driven it much yet to know how it performs.

    Good Luck!

My Dads got a 2006 F250 6.0 and its averages 14.1 to 14.2 mpg. Its only got 30000 miles on it so I guess you could say its "not broken" in. The heaviest thing hes towed was a tandem axle box trailerat about 8000lbs and he was getting around 13.9mpg when trailering that. Hes getting a Banks 6gun tuner for it and it should go up to 18mpg.
