Question Paul
Quote:
Serious question for you Paul... I'm trying to understand why you felt the need to tell the guest on the boat to "get his fat ass in the chair"? Do you always show your crew and guests that level of respect? You were fortunate that "Mr. fat ass" didn't smack the living shit out of you after you released that white to sink to the bottom. Now, any time that gentleman goes to show his buddies or family the video of the first marlin he ever caught, he's got some guy half his size calling him a fat ass on the video. I'm sure that will provide a wonderful memory for him to play over and over. If I were the boat owner and you ever spoke to me, any of my family, guests, or other hired crew members on board that way, you would be fired on the spot without an ounce of hesitation. Insulting and yelling at your guests (being "colorful" and joking or not) is not how professionals conduct themselves. The captain sets the tone for the experience. |

It is what it is Mr. teddyp. Deep has probably forgot more about fishing than you will ever know. If you ain't fishin you ain't f&%kin up. Real life isn't always pretty and perfect.

Its a fair question guys... I don't mind answering... If the boss brings aboard guests who my crew or I do not know well. It is always the polite and cordial route. Sir and Mam are protocol for them, often preceeded by Mr. X or Ms.Y... As friendships develop formality is replaced by non malicious needling and nicknames. For example, I would venture a guess that few of the people I know call their spouses by their proper names. More often it becomes a pet name.
When people develop FRIENDSHIPS nicknames become the norm... People on this site often call me Deep... Aboard I get different ones. Captain Crusty, Ol Grouchy, Skip, and even a few that don't bear repeating on a family rated site. If you had friends there Davey you'ld understand that. ![]() If you have a group of unfamiliar people, formality is instinctual... Formality however takes a lot of the fun out of fishing. Are you suggesting, we should wear tuxedos out there? Though I had never fished with this group as a whole, more specifically marlin fished, does not mean however that we have not been friends for a very long time. Cussin and non malicious needling are part of it. We could put on a facade of polite bullshit but then we are not being honest with each other or ourselves... Are we? Earthy and crude go hand in hand with making fishing fun.

Not to worry Deepy, I have my share of friends, and probably 80% of them would have body slammed you if you ever spoke to them that way. I prefer to respect my friends, and they show me plenty of respect in return.
To each their own I suppose. Good luck with that technique of yours. |
