    Cool Decisions Decisions........

Ok the off season is already killing me... I hate sitting still.

Bow season ends tomorrow. Black powder doesn't start for a couple weeks...

I have limited raw components for lure making so I can only get in a couple days doing that. Replacement stuff is about three weeks from getting here...

I have to patch my skiffs bottom... A half day job at best...

The Deep C needs a few things to get done but really needs a competent mechanic to do it. Two days work for me and a week or so down time to do the other stuff...

So I see about four days work and then nothing to do for a couple weeks... What then to do? Sit here and twiddle my thumbs? Poke the cat with a fork? Wait around for maybe one piggie shot during black powder?
    Or........

Do I toss my chunkin gear and a set of giant tuna gear in the rolling tackle box and make the trip back north? I can probably poke a deer or two with my mate... But thats a long way to go to do just that... I need more...
Do I take the chance on feeling some SFC love and book a couple trips for canyon slaughters or mudhole giants? Or am I just subjecting the rolling tackle box to 3000 more miles just to sit and watch the leaves turn yellow?

Input folks... I need input... Is there enough love out there in SFC land to keep me busy?

I could never get bored living where you live... I guess we you make a living at fishing it isn't like going fishing to have fun. I mean I lay flooring for a living and my house needs new flooring. I wish I could help you out. I would like to get out on a charter with you but timing is not right. Now when you talk of heading north, are you talking NJ ?

If I come up, I'll camp out on the north end of Jersey and turn my attention toward the Hudson and possibly the "hole" if the giants decide to show up...

Our fishing here right now sucks except swords. So many thunderstorms around that just isn't safe... In a month the sails will start arriving. We should have black fins arround, a stray marlin and fair fishing for big mahi. Until then though its deathly quiet...

Are the thunderstorms a problem on the Gulf side of the state ? That may be a stupid question but I know places where storms form more frequently than other places near by.

Can you be more precise as to where you fish out of NJ ? And is this where you charter the 36' Luhrs from ?

The 36' is in Atlantic Highlands and the 40 is down in Barnegat...These won't be full fledged formal charters... Kinda pieced together expenses plus tip type trips... There has been enough interest shown here recently that filling a couple trips shouldn't be a problem...

As for the gulf side yes they get the real shitty boomers too... Ft Meyers and Tampa get them real bad. Ours form out by Lake Okeechobee and slowly work offshore most of the time. Some form at night though right on top of the swordfish grounds. We should be comming to the end of that though in the next couple weeks. Then it should be nice for a while til the cold fronts of winter screw up a couple days a week...

Haaaaayy are you trying to get rid of me????

Snook frustrate me. They're like small striped bass. The good spots are always crowded. I have a couple tricks to use at the spill ways that produce well but are about as boring as skim milk. Then I get into that catch a hundred fish to find a single keeper thing. Again all in a crowd and dealing with people casting over you and tangles....
Once or twice a year I slide up to the indian river and wade the waters up there for a nice mixed bag of trout and snook away from the masses. Thats not til november though...
They're ok for a once in a while thing but they don't really flip my pancakes...

But this time of year you can run up the beach in the skiff. Or tow up to St Lucie. Killer stuff.
