De Bay Ferry Crossing
Anyone take the ferry last night from cape may to lewes. We went to the AC boat show yesterday and had one crazy ride going home. When we got the ferry terminal the wind had the flags straight. When we pulled out of cape may they didn't spin the ferry until we were out of the inlet. Once we got spun around and headed into it it was like 30-40kts with 6-8' breaking waves. The were a couple of real good rolls. How rough does it have to be to get them to cancel the crossing? I can tell you last night had to be just on the borderline.

The wind was blowing my truck off the road last night driving up the AC Expressway. I can't imagine what the ferry ride was like.

Crab mustard is good
I bet that was fun, were there people freaking out or what?
I took the ferry back to CM after the WMO last year. It was flat calm in the bay, but to my surprise, the ferry still had a good roll to it. At least that's what it seemed like, could have been the side effect of too many orange crushes and so co and lime from the night before.

in the late afternoon we had a snow squall pop through up here. The winds were up
I bet the ride in the open bay was a good one, you will not forget.. to soon

Neilinov, as you know
depending on the current vs. wind direction, very few places are nastier, and at the ones that are you can try to tuff it out for the short run thru, but in DE bay it is a LOOOOOONNNGGGG way to calm water.

I only went up top once to take my son to the bathroom and people were freakin out. I don't think I ever saw so many pale shades of grey on people's faces. We stayed below in the car and watched a movie on the car's dvd player. It was the longest ferry crossing I ever had. It was about a 2 hour ride which normally takes 70 mins. My car got a good dosin of salt water as we were the the last car on and when the ferry spun we were the first car facing the bow. There were a couple of sheets of green water that washed up on deck and hit the car. So it was a good thing the car was facing backwards. I'd hate to have a wave wash right into the grill of the Infinity. Today I had to take the car to the car wash to get all the salt off of it. I am glad they were open. They usually close when the temps get below freezing.

They have canceled crossings in the past due to High Winds.

Craziest ferry crossing I've ever had:
Mid July squall pushed threw just about 10 minutes before entering Cape May. Wind was howling, rain pouring, and lightning crashing and the ferry makes a U-turn. I was clueless and said to myself "I know we aren't going all the way back to Lewes".
Come to find out the ferry can't dock with lighting present because of the metal ramp used to get on and off the boat so we just had to wait it out until the squall line passed. Interesting voyage though.
