myproblem is the local dealer hasn't a clue and the cummins service center isn't allowd to work on it because of an agreement so I guess I need to find another dealer in a nearby town and see if they know anymore about this problem. I'll ask if they can check the solenoid valve in the tranny.
Thanks guys.
Jeff
Is the turbo spooling up?Has the truck recently sat for awhile?Turbos create alot of heat, when shut of condensation happens in the turbo,if it sits for awhile the guts can rust, and cause it to hang up.

Blackwell,
I know what your talking about, my cats in the boat have that problem when they sit but the truck runs every day 7 days a week.
fin, your right it is a 5.9. the lift pump was replaced about 12-14 months ago
so there my be a new updated pump. it didn't do it coming to work today but it doesn't seem to shift properly.
SOUNDS LIKE A LIFT PUMP PROBLEM WHAT THAY NEED TO DO IS PLUG INTO IT WITH A CUMMINS INSITE STATION AND FIND OUT WHAT EVERY THING IS DOING IE. INJECTORS CODES TURBO. IF THE TURBO WAS NOT SPOOLING THERE WOULD BE SMOKE. IF THE PUMP GOES NO POWER.
more than likely the coil voltage is dropped out to the lift pump if you lose oil psi also, don't forget that. you might have a relay or a oil psi switch going bad, not oil sender, just the psi safety switch.
why did the dealer replace the pumps before....water in the fuel will bog down the engine and foul/destroy the pumps. they are lubricated by the diesel fuel. good thing no freezing weather down that way. try a additive to absorb the water if that is the problem
