This crab was caught by a UK fisherman then donated to the Blue Reef Aquarium in East Sussex, UK.
Look at the right side of the picture.
but I see whay your getting at and that is wierd. never heard of that mutation. Cool Jer!
Mike
never seen a crab mutated like that before
Me either...!!! Does that mean it can give you the middle claw???![]()
I think it's a Stone Crab, like we get down here and best known for as Joe's Stone Crabs. I think the combination of over harvesting (by removing one clab) and returning to the wild might have caused this. It's either that or the frickin world wide pollution in the water. Either way, if caught, try my corn and crab chowder listed in the Grilling y Chillin Section
Sweet Corn and Crab Chowder
im thinking MUSTARD SAUCE![]()
Caught a blue-claw crab with the same deformity this winter in the Cape Fear River. I took a picture of it on my phone but forgot to save the darn thing. When I tried to find it, it was gone. Strange.

Yeah - but you are only 1/2 mile from the Brunswick Nuke plant...
Here are some more of interest;
COCONUT CRABS
The coconut crab is a large edible land crab related to the hermit crab, and are found in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans . They eat coconuts for a living! How would you like to be on an island and come across a crab that is more than 3 feet from head to tail and weighs up to 40 pounds, with a pair of large pincers strong enough to open coconuts! They can climb trees too, but they only eat coconuts that have already fallen to the ground. Coconut crab meat has been considered a local delicacy.
