Conservative vs. Liberal Thought - a Debate

If my memory serves me, you, LT, proposed this debate. I hardly sucked you into this.

What you must realize is that faith (not necessarily religion) is a cornerstone of what created this nation.

Liberty, personal liberties, are the cornerstone of this nation and make up almost all of it's founding principles.

It plays a part in the lives of many, if not most people. Your views will naturally be developed along those lines.

Conservative views tend toward tradition and equality (personal opinion on that one). A large percentage of conservatives are Christians nowadays and can speak openly about their faith. It is a part of us, so it may very well come up in conversation. I also have found many liberals to be quite overbearing and insulting in pushing their views on me.

The conservative viewpoint is not a hateful one.

The most pernicious myth of conservatism is that conservatives are responsible and others are not and that this lack of responsibility contributes directly to other's failures and their dependency. Ergo, they deserve their plight.

This is what I called "punitive contempt". It's everwhere in the conservative spectrum and amounts to nothing more than grandstanding an leads to unabashed hypocrisy when conservatives also partake of the government safety net (I don't see too many conservatives turning down unemployment benefits these days).

It's just a self-aggrandizing myth, LT.

It does, however, seek responsibility, accountability and respect. It does not promote an "entitlement" mentality. It promotes being responsible for what you do, being accountable for your actions and words and earning what you receive.

Why would anyone conform to these ideals? A large amount of the chaos in our society these days can be attributed to individual lack of responsibility, accountability and too much laziness.

Virtually all the present "chaos" can be traced directly to Wall Street and the criminal conspiracy of realtors, title companies, mortgage companies, rating agencies and big banks as they committed crime after crime after crime in the housing market. What we need is a RICO investigation by a special prosecutor and not misplaced blame on those who you perceive to be irresponsible.

Personally, I am conservative because I believe that I am responsible for my errors, no matter what they are.. I do not run from my mistakes or try and spin them so someone else takes the heat. I can own up to things. If I make an error, many times I'll be the first to tell you. It may make things difficult in life, but I can look in the mirror and be proud of the guy staring back.

People should follow/subscribe to the beliefs that make the most sense to them. I lean toward conservative, but also have views that are more liberal.

I've noticed that you have some liberal beliefs too. Perhaps, you'll be inclined to vote independently in the future, like me?

Well, I had to hold myself back - My original thought was to say
" Go have sexual relations with yourself " But, I took a step back, a big toke, dropped a healthy deuce and decided - F it - might as well be legit. LF took the time to post - I should at least be a gentleman about it.
Now about that deuce _ jesus !!!!!! I cant believe the size of the thing that passed through my cute lil balloon knot. This thing had a mind of its own and took 3 mighty flushes to get down. being the Huddhini that Iam - I did make it disappear.

In my humble opinion LF is too busy trying to spread his word and coming off quite narcissistic about it.......makes me think fannypackerswife is telling the truth to me.....Its alright to have a different view on what ever........but why go out of your way to cram your beliefs down everyone's throats....that is my problem with the liberal bs

Me, well educated ??? not at all - I made it passed the 10th grade - that was it [ true fact ] I hold the mighty GED where anybody that can fog a mirror can pass. I just read alot and have a pretty good grasp on the english language.
