I would like to take an on-line vote as to how the members feel about this subject and if there is a strong majority , send letters and faxes to the Congressmen who represent the members of Sportfisherman.com tackle shops , marinas, boat builders etc.
My personal opinion is that at the very least there should be a timely inventory of the resources located along our coasts . I would like to see drilling to begin in the near future.
It is becoming clear to some that while the rapid increase in energy costs did not cause the economic crises we are now in it was the last straw that caused the suddenness of this situation.
While I, like most would like to see low fuel costs, stable fuel pricing is a matter of national and economic security.
There is always a risk of a spill around drilling rigs but the oil companies have so much to loose in both dollars of product lost, cleanup costs, legal costs and bad PR etc. , they do not want to spill a drop. The devastating hurricane seasons of the last few years have shown the relative safety of the production process.
Other benefits that I see include;
Increased revenues to coastal communities,
Increased taxes to the Federal and State governments,
Better fishing due to new structure,
Added safety to the boating community with the presence of near by personnel and helicopter landing sights .
Private industry investment to help jump start the economy.
There are four wells capped off of New Jersey and I believe there are more capped wells of of Georgia so start up could be timely.

since the price of gas is down now ,no body cares. Do you think that is why Congress is holding the hearings now?
