sorry for the lack of posts lately. I'm sending this one from my treo so all I'm sorry if things are disjointed...

I'm in houston for advanced dynamic positioning school. let me say there is nothing advanced about it... here's the break down... 1 u need 30 days on a dynamic position vessel before u come here. this is where my concern is. apparently these guys have cg licenses. could have fooled me. they can't plot, they can't navigate, they can't think. we all wonder why fuel prices are so high...

so let this serve as a warning. avoid the gulf of mexico if u value ur boat or ur life. no offense intended to the compitent captains out there. but please, for the safety of everyone, get ur shit together.

Not trying to lecture or anything, but everyone who goes offshore should know how to navigate using just a compass a chart and a pair of dividers.

Rembember, in 1494 Columbas was able to return to San Salvador from Spain.

I learned it all once but am the first to admit I'm rusty at best.I always know the compass heading out so atleast I can 180 it to get home.Oh and I carry a hand held gps

Just curious, but do you know whose acoustic reference system you are using for the DP system? Simrad, Nautronix, Sonardyne, Sonatech, maybe?
