Computer Issues..IE 8
The last two days have been pretty interesting from the computer side of things.
Installed IE 8 about two weeks ago, huge mistake, as I have Windows XP. Seemed logical at the time. Im not wiz with this stuff, however, DO NOT DO IT..IE8.
Then a forward assault was launched from a couple of re-direct trojans, viruses etc, which must have found loopholes in the new IE 8. Each time a google search would be performed it would re-direct to some other site unrelated to the search. I live in google for many things so it's invaluable tool I find.
On to the battle of the viruses, malware, trojans whatever they are.
Went thru 4 anti-virus programs of varying degrees of power and costs over and above what was already installed to try to rid the system of these lil monsters, to no avail.
Found some, deleted some, they would re-appear later etc etc.
My brother is here running the web side of things so he got involved and is more adept in this stuff than I. Im not too bad with this stuff but he is light years ahead, so we got out the shovels, crosses and excorcism gear.
Upshod of the whole ordeal and maybe some pointers if your having redirect issues or get them down the road is this:
1. IE 8 has major conflicts with Windows XP, Vista et al.
2. Delete IE 8 and all components
3. Install a really good virus program that looks in every line of code that takes on this machine over an hour for a scan.
We ended up buying GData Total Care, which is a two part destroyer made up of Bit Ware Virus remover and Kaspersky Anti Virus.
4. Trashed IE and went with Google Chrome as a browser, as the re-direct virus completely altered IE 7 & IE 8, to the point where it would not work with a search engine such as google.
5. Bing and Google search engines don't seem to get along.
6. Google Chrome isn't filled with bells and whistles and seems to work fine, takes some getting used to tho.
7. External hard drive backup of all files on this machine.
We DO NOT host canyongear.com so that is not an ISSUE.
Well, everything is pretty much back to normal, lost some things and some things don't work, whether it's Google Chrome or resets of a number of control panel settings not sure. One thing that disappeared which is strange is all the little signature ads on here. The big ads are there but in the forum pages the little signature ads to the right are completely gone.
There were a few times the Sony Vaio was headed for the intra-coastal out of frustration, good thing jr was here, otherwise it would have been swimming.
Im not really sure the re-direct virus is completely gone, but I do know it attacks IE, so Google Chrome or another browser will help if you get this virus.

One of my Dells from hell got trashed this summer with something that came through bing... I tried everything known to man but it set up camp down in the guts and labled itself as administrator to where I couldn't even shut shit down from task manager... After norton, and atni malaware failed I was left with Remington 870 as the cure...

If Ignorance is bliss, Why aren't more people happy?
IE8 is horrible. Almost a virus itself. Give Firefox a try.
Chrome is pretty quick, but still has some compatibility issues. Firefox is more mature.
