    Cleaning Teak

Squidnation, Bill, made a comment in another thread about cleaning teak.
What is everyones favorite method, best products???

Personally I've always liked Te-Ka 2 part cleaner, it's messy but it really gets the grime out of the wood. As for oil, I'm partial to Amazon.

    Any tips??

Screwdriver, hammer or crow bar. What ever is required to remove it & install starboard.

Sudsy ammonia + water 50/50. DO NOT LET DRY. Do a small section and then rinse thororoughly. As Makokiller said, ALWAYS go ACROSS the grain. Be careful...do not get into close quarters with the sudsy ammonia. You can buy sudsy ammonia at any grocery store in the cleaner section for about $2 a gallon.

While teak is still wet, combine Starbrite Teak Brightener and water 40/60, Apply liberally and keep wet.....again DO NOT LET DRY. Let the Starbrite solution stay on the teak for 5-10 minutes....rinse thoroughly.

My cockpit is 130 sq-ft plus teak covering boards and I use two 16 oz containers of the Starbrite Teak Brightener to approx. a gallon of water.

During the season, I do this about once a month. Total time = Approx 1 hour. Gives the teak a "blonde" look....BEAUTIFUL!

    Chuck,

I love teak & think it is the best looking wood period. As long as it is on someone elses boat .

This is exactly what I do for my teak however, I will use some Ajax or Comet if the teak is heavily soiled.
