Georgia Arms is the 5th largest retailer of .223 Ammo in America . (they sell 9 mm, .45, etc ammo)

They normally buy spent brass from the US Dept of Defense - 'one time used' shell casings by our Military - from training on Military bases, etc. They buy the brass and then re-load for resale to Law Enforcement,
Gun Shops, Gun Clubs, Wal-Mart, and etc.

They normally buy 30,000 lbs of spent brass at a time.

This week the DOD wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and said that from now on the DOD will be destroying the brass - shredding it. It is no longer available to the Ammo makers - unless they just buy it in a scrap shredded condition (which they have No use for). The shredded brass is NOW going to be sold by the DOD to China as scrap metal....after the DoD pays for it to be shredded. The DOD is selling the brass to China for less money than Ammo manufacturers have been paying...plus the DOD has to pay to have the brass shredded and do all the accounting paperwork. That sure helps the US economy now, doesn't it? Sell cheaper to China - and do not sell shells at all to a proven US business. Any agenda working here???? Obama going after our ammunition!!!!!

The Georgia Arms owner even related a story that one of his competitors had already purchased a load of brass last week - and the DOD contacted him this week and said they were sending someone over to make sure it was destroyed. Shell Casings he had already bought! THE BRASS HAS NO VALUE TO THE AMMO MAKER IF IT IS DESTROYED/SHREDDED/MELTED. THE AMMO MANUFACTURER ONLY USES THE EMPTY BRASS SHELLS TO RELOAD DIFFERENT CALIBERS - MAINLY .223 BULLETS. Georgia Arms owner says that he will have to lay off at least Half of his 60 workers, within 2 - 3 months if the DOD no longer sells their spent brass to him. He has 2 - 3 months inventory of shells to use. By summer - he's out. If he has to buy new manufactured brass shells, then the cost of ammunitioin to the buyer will double and triple...plus Obama wants to add a 500% tax on each shell.

I find this really disturbing. I guess obama knows he'll never be able to take away our guns, well not out of our hands but he is sure trying to screw everyone over. It would be unfair to blame it only on our new president but comon, its as plain as day and its because of America's necessity to be politically correct we can't say what is going on right in front of our eyes without some sort of hard evidence. The new presidential administration wants guns gone, end of story. Apparently they are going after it anyway they can and that is completely unfair to American citizens. I truly hope this issue is somehow resolved.

What a bunch of crap. Go ahead run out buy everything you can and drive up the prices while shitty little reloading companies like Georgia Arms laugh all the way to the bank. This supposedly happened mid march and five days after the original notice that all ammo casings were to be destroyed, the decision was reversed, supposedly due to Georgia Arms and the radio show Gun Talk's diligence. They supposedly managed this in five days? Since when does Congress or the DOD ever change any beaurocratic decisions in five days. This Larry Haynie of G.A. claims they are one of the largest ammo manufacturers in the country. What a load of crap, they are a small reloading company. This wouldn't have affected any new ammunition manufacturing at all only recycled brass used by reloading companies. I want to see original documentation sent from the DOD to these companies not just text posted on a blog. This is nothing but a ploy to drive up costs. How come Georgia Arms is the only company that made mention of this problem and when he states that one of his competitors was contacted by DOD and told he had to destroy casings he had already bought he wont mention who the competitor is so the story can be confirmed.

Once again this happened in mid march and was rescinded 5 days later quit posting paranoid unresearched bullshit.
I guarantee there is more to this than what The Shootist and Georgia Arms are reporting.


By all means everybody run right out buy as much as you can. Drive the prices up, and show all the antis how paranoid we all are and give them more ammo in their fight against our rights.

As a result and in conjunction with DLA's current Demil code B policy, this notice will serve as official notification which requires Scrap Venture (SV) to implement mutilation as a condition of sale for all sales of fired munitions effective immediately. This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.

The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction. Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government.

If you do not agree with the new conditions of your spot sale, please sign the appropriate box provided below stating that you do not agree to the new terms and would like to cancel your purchase effective immediately. Big Fish I apologize. That wasnt meant to be directed at you or anyone else directly it was meant as more of angry rant.

RCARNEY I realize that you copied this from some other site just to try and warn or educate others and I wasnt really trying to make it seem like I was coming down on you and I understand about protecting our rights but it has has to be done responsibly. As far as shell casing destruction the DOD has done just that several times in the past, they do it for whatever reason and then they start selling it again and the manufacturers know this. They are just using this as reason to scare people into panic buying and driving the price up. Why do you think their making such a big deal about it when the decision was already reversed.

As far as the letter those arent copies of the letters all that is text that they typed on the Shootist website. Shit I can post a letter from Heidi Klum stating her undying letter love for me and how she wants to be my love slave. It will be addressed to me from her and everything just like those were. I cant post the original cause um I think I misplaced it or something but I got one I swear!! I want to see actual scans of the letters on DOD or the Surplus Companies letterhead. Especially the letter that states the reason for the origanal decision to sell the scrap to China. The reason I think this is crap, because the DOD wouldnt be paying to destroy the casings. It would be sold to a salvager who would have to show proof that it was demilled just like they do with everything else that they scrap. Then the salvager would auction off the scrap metal to the highest bidder just like they always do. You know at 57, I've been listening to "gun control" bull since JFK was shot. It's a great topic for politicians to waffle around about, but over those long 46 years what has really happened, only restrictions on armor piercing bullets I think which really does makes some sense. Almost everything Obama says has added another nail to his coffin, and we aren't out of the third month of his presidency yet, and I think his approval rating is only 50%. I may be too nervous, but the following web address that I just viewed has my attention. Perhaps some of you may be able to shed some light on the subject. My take is that 18 states are trying to impliment a coding proceedure on ammunition during this year. The required laser machines will cost each manufacturer between $ 300,000 and $ 500,000. Each round will also require a .05 tax. Pa. Md. and NJ are listed as states having this introduced. Many on this board are in one of those states. Is this, in your opinion a threat?
