I don't think this was to much of an idiotic post and it kinda sucks that everyone jumped down this dudes throat. I didn't think SFC was like the "other website". Anyway, I will try and make something positive out of this post.

It sounds to me that this guy is just another frustrated troller from Jersey. I happen to be one of those guys as well. Let's for a minute look at it like this. When it comes to canyon fishing you can troll all day and only managed a few tuna. Last year there were pretty good longfin bites in the canyon as well as dolphin, and billfish but the yellowfin were so spotty. We would troll all day and as soon as the sun set and we put butters and sardines out as well as live squid we were on the meat. Maybe Teddy was just referring to trying to get these fish to bite during the day??? And I can tell you this, in the Canyons off Jersey the last few years the yellowfin troll bite has been horrible and it would require some serious skill to get these fish to eat during the day that you can easily catch at night.

Ok ... For grins I'll kindsa take his side. Not that chunking is skillless entirely but that it screws the fishing for everyone else.
We get something in Florida that I can relate to this. A good trolling bite on sails can be had in the fall. Used to be that you could go right on through winter and it was all you needed to do. Eventually guys started playing with live bait and found it was a lot easier.... Well the side effect is that it will shut down the trolling bite in a blink when the switch is made. Sails find that the live is easier pickins too.

Tuna are the same way. You can have a great trolling bite but the second the chunks get flying its game over. They almost become dependent on them. As long as the chunks fly they will stay put and not make their natural runs... The tuna used to get trolled solid from below jack spot right up through the mud hole. Now the north end gets shut down because they're holding on the free food to the south.

I have another problem with chunking. Look at the biomass of bait getting burnt! You scream about the comms scraping the oceans clean and here you are supporting them four flats at a time... There I said it and I feel better...

Yeah I totally agree about the fish become used to stuff. I hear stories about the large bluefin coming right to the scallop boats just because they associate the noise with food since there is always a meal to be had behind those boats. The one wierd thing is I don't think day chunking in the canyons is as successful as the night bite either. I dunno hopefully something changes this year because I love to troll. Regardless of the price of fuel I still would rather troll.

The Bluefin inshore though seemed to love the troll last year. I think chunking and trolling was equally effective. One thing is for sure those bastards will always keep us guessing.

If you look under his name on the left you will see..

"Best Catch: everyone that responds to me/3 lbs fluke."

Looks to me like a troll and a mediocre fisherman (at best).

there is nothing better!!...leave at 8am friday..troll till dusk, find your spot, set your drift and start chunckin baby!!! nothig better then going crazy with a squid jig for 5 hours...or droppin a sabiki rig down when the anchovies and mackerel show up!!!!......and the sunrise!!! doesnt get any better!

BUT...back to the thread at hand....I HAVE A HUGE problem when a guy sits on the side of a rig and jigs tuna, after tuna, after, tuna up and then brings them on bored blood F*in pouring out of thier mouth and then says.......Part of conservation is letting these little guys live to get caught another day!!!!!!!!!!!!

and then the underwater camera spans to show the fish on his way to stick his nose in the sand or become shark bait!!!! are you kidding me....at least keep the sucker and filet him up! dont act like your doing him a service!!! I was so pissed off after seeing this....i almost wrote ESPN....almost!

but the truth of the matter is its happening on our own docks. these guys will limit out on bluefin and sit there and boat one after another......and fight em for hours and then release him????????? AND I DONT MEAN JUST ONE OR TWO OVER THE LIMIT...THEY ARE SPENDING ALL NIGHT DOING THIS!!!

now if someone can tell me the survival rate of a 250lb bluefin tuna who has just been worn out by a 300lb fat man so drunk he thinks everything should die.....I would greatly appreciate it..

cause my bet is that beautiful fish is goin straight to the bottom!!!...im not saying dont Do it...i love chuncking! lets just respect it alittle. and dont act like your doing the fish a favor...cause your not!

If you got a problem with my rant, im sorry. I just remeber hearing stories of massive fish from my grandfather, and it was never we caught 18..it was we caught our limit and one of em happend to be a monster! I dont know. i think i should probably go back to bed...im normally not this opinonated

o and by the way...im in no shape or form a PETA person....so dont even go there!!! Chunking is the problem...as usual blatent disreguard is.....and there is always gonna be alot of that!
