Chunking, no better than shark fishing.

Thank you to everyone NOT from NJ for chiming in. I appreciate your opinions and value your friendship but this was pointed in the direction of Jersey fishermen.

I am sure both of you from Delaware and Maryland want to chime in and say Jersey guys fish on your spots but you can't because this is a conversation for Jersey fishermen. Your responses will not count and be disregarded immediately.

I am from NJ.. and if you cant fish outside of NJ than you cant fish... it is not the arrow it is the indian.. if you cant do it outside the box then dont do it at all....


There is an art to chunkin and an art to trolling.. more towards trolling but also chunking.. Trolling it all about the right presentation for the day.. chunking is the same except up here we do the NE canyons at night.. It has nothing to do with the bonehead response of killing the fishery...

They eat what they eat, yellowfin do not get chunked up because of their habitual habits.. it has to do with the flow of the stream and the bait they are after.. We are loaded with squid with are up top at night and down deep.. if you cant troll up tuna maybe you got an issue.. I do just fine..

To answer your question.. YES... ANY IDIOT CAN GO INTO THE HUDSON, DROP A 6-10 LINE SPREAD OVER AND COVER 50 SQ MILES AND CATCH A FEW TUNA ON THE TROLL,, JUST AS ANY IDIOT CAN CATCH A FISH ON THE CHUNK IF THEY ARE LUCKY!!


IT IS THE GOOD GUYS WHO PUT IN THEIR TIME, READ THE WATER, FOLLOW THE WATER AND FISH, FIND THE BAIT AND WORK THE BAIT THAT CATCH THE FISH!

I START READING THE ROFFS AND OTHER CHARTS AROUND APRIL AND FOLLOW THE WATER.. WHEN I GO OUT I DONT SET A SPREAD AND HOPE TO FIND FISH.. I FIND BAIT!!! IF THERE IS NO BAIT OR LIFE YOUR WASTING YOUR TIME..

LIKE I SAID.. 72 MILES FROM BARNEGAT LIGHT EAST SOUTH EAST WILL THROW YOUR ASS RIGHT AROUND THE TIP OF THE TOMS... YOU CAN RUN 68 AND DROP YOUR LINES AND POKE A PRAY LIKE A DAMN AMATEUR, OR DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE ONE THIS SITE DOES AND LEARN FROM YOUR OWN MISTAKES AND DONT WASTE THE TIME, MONEY, OR ENERGY IF YOU CAN NOT HACK IT AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

It sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into this sport. I am sitting here perplexed because I agree with everything that you said. I thought you trolled 14 lines, what happened to that tactic?

I do troll 14 lines.. i am just saying throw out a 6-10 and hope to get lucky..

i troll a 2 short flats, 2 dredges off the stern, 2 long flats, 2 long straights, 2 short riggers, 2 long riggers, 1 wwwwwwb and 1 wwwb..

Sometimes i get a little nutty and i will run a teaser line thru each glass ring on the riggers..

THATS 16 lines out there!!!

Oh boy, any one that says there is no art to chunking has never gone out and done it . You got the balls to commit to the chunk on the hook? Im not talkin tying off to a high flier off some lobster pot string either. You got confidence ? Of course you need to find the right water, and bait or your waisting bait and time....and time is money just as the fuel you burn on the troll. Rigging.....how about when theyre in your slick chewin your chunks but shying away from the leader? Sure scale down, its a nobrainer but.....now the angler and the pit work gets interesting. Your not under power to keep em out of the running gear, doubls, triples, quadruple hookups are just as common if not more so on the chunk. Workin baits to the right depths, keying in on those depths and puttin it to em ...even if you drift you gotta work them baits, butters getting squid sucked, catching squid and dink macks for bait....keepin the chunk going all night....deep lines for swords ...makos...come on you sound like a guy that goes fishing....not like a fisherman.

Chunking has killed the tuna fishing in NJ.

I am sure you will respond with something about the fuel prices and how much skill you need to catch a 200lbs tuna on the hook.

My question is how many of you will turn your ball and hook in for some skills and troll this summer?

Sounds to me like a guy who couldn't catch one with either method. Maybe golf is your gig

Thanks, but I'm heading to Cape May for the weekend. Then out of town for the next 2. Just as the fishing is getting good here
