    Christmas Tree Farm

Just thought I would share a bit of my world from Thanksgiving to December 24th. I have been working on this Farm (Jug Hill) for 27 years, the farm is located in Washington Crossing PA. Approximately 12 total acres, 10 of wich is our cut your own field and the other two we keep for our pre cut trees. Started out at the age of 14 hustling trees to the customers cars and running the brush hog between the rows in the summer. As the years went by the owners wanted me to be more involved with the maintenance of the trees and the "business end " of the farm.

At this point I am on my second cycle of the field, meaning I have planted the trees as seedlings and cared for them until maturity and then cut them for our customers. We plant approximately 1100 trees to the acre. Our field is comprised of Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, Concolor Fir. Douglas Fir being our most popular. On our busy weekends we will cut 600-650 trees from the field. The farm carries trees from little table topers on up to 21'.

Pictured below is the cut your own field, wich might as well be called Scott will cut your own because 95% of the people have the motivation and holiday spirt right up until they get on their hands and knees and start to cut into the sticky sappy trunk with the rusty bow saw they have not used since last year when they had me cut down the tree with my chain saw . It's my job and I love it!!! Good honest work

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS

    Scott

Good looking trees you have there.

My parents had very good friends that have a tree farm.

I remember digging stumps as a kid for some extra money in the summer....

It is good honest work, for sure. I spent a few of the longest weeks of my life loading trucks heading for Fla (from NC) - to this day I cannot stand smell of a Balsam fir!!

Pretty trees there Scott. Several years ago I went to the mountains in NC with some friends to pick up a dozen or so trees from a Christmas tree farm. It was great picking out the perfect tree except when I left home it was 72 and when I got up there it was 32 and snowing. It did not take me long to find the perfect tree since all i had on was shorts and a t-shirt. Do ya'll carry Frazier firs as well? I understand in our mountains they are suffering from some sort of root rot and that once in the soil they can't grow the Frazier firs on that land any more.

Yes we do carry Frazier Firs, however we buy them from NC and VA. Are growers have not had the problem with root rot as far as I know.
