    Christmas and Conservatives, Fundamentally Contradictory

One of the things that always troubles me about America during the holidays, particularly where I live in a Republican enclave north of Houston, is how irreconcilable are the precepts and values taught by Jesus which are celebrated during that season and the prevailing attitudes and beliefs of my overwhelmingly Christian Republican/Conservative neighbors expressed all year long.

At the same time they're erecting an Xmas yard decoration that boasts of peace and good will towards men, they're advocating hate and killing of someone in a foreign land or they're spewing racism and intolerance or they're spitting out the words "civil liberties" as it were a hooker left over from a recently bout with influenza. You all know what I'm talking about. You see it every holiday season. And, most of your (excepting Marine, Glenn W and Zummie, perhaps) engage in precisely that behavior.

Maybe you've noticed my recent posts where I post videos of comedians who mock conservatives and, in particular, Republicans. I've done so because I took to heart the words of a friend who said that the best way to combat the hypocracy of the right is to do so with humor rather than with direct confrontation. "It's a softer and more effective means of confrontation" he said. I think he's right. Using humor and mockery to make Republicans see themselves as others see them is a profoundly toxic tonic for their exceptionalism.

So, here's another one which is spot on point regarding their Holiday Hyprocrasy. Bill Mahr discusses this disconnect between what conservatives, especially Republicans, say and do during the Holidays. It's just sooooo true.

In my home, we actually believe in peace and good will towards men even if they don't look or act like us and even if they're what some here so fear; the "others". We believe this all year long, not just one day a year.

Some of you should try it. It's a remarkable tonic that relieves you of all those hateful and mean-spirited trappings of what today passes for conservatism, when in reality it's merely Fascism.

Southern Baptist Republicans don't have a monoply on our society's holiday spirit. Many a Catholic democrat goes through most of the year in the same way as discussed and then pays reverence to their religion and culture for a few weeks a year.
Indeed, when their was such a thing as the solid democratic South, cullture and holiday spirit was much the same as today in good ole Dixie.
My observations are that political views have little to do with personal conduct or beliefs for the other 11 months of the year.

Instead of focusing on hypocracy, perhaps one can look on the positive side of the holidays as a time of year when people reflect a little bit more on moral values, goodwill to all men, and even possibly a bit of reverence.

My glass is more than half full.

Ah, the Voice of Today's Replubican / Conservative Party has Spoken

Thank you I/E for demonstrating once again that Republican's are shrill, hypocritical, self-important dullards who think they and they alone run the country.

I merely point out your hypocrasy and you decide you're the final arbitor of who's American, who's got the right to stay and who's got to leave.

Like I said in an earlier thread, you guys live down to your sad reputation in so many ways that it's only you who don't realize who you really are...America's fascist party.

    Hi, Glenn.

I genuinely appreciate your posts as your writings so clearly reflect your views that it's immediately possible to get where you're coming from...and identify where our views differ.

And the above quote is where we differ.

LongFisher, Who Are You Trying To Convince,

Yourself or us??? Maybe it's apart of some 12 step program you're on, re-evaluating yourself? Truth is you're no different than the rest of us out here. You compair your life to belief's you say you don't recognise. Sorta like a bigot professing "I've got alot of black friend's". Ring's pretty hollow on this end. The way I see it, the vast moajority of people on this little spinning ball are generally pretty good folk's. All they desire is to be allowed to live and love their families. Most people I've run into (regardless of where they are at), are more than willing to help someone out in need. You keep making the point that you do this, or that, just like the rest of us. It's just the rest of us don't feel it's necessary to point it out. Just sayin', Frank
