Red Bugs--- welcome to MY World. Sounds like it's too late to stop them from spreading, so no sense on advice there. The good news is, you ain't going to bleed to death from scratching --- the bad news is, I've tried every concoction known to man and none of them work very well. This is the best I've found with a gazzilion encounters: Short term relief (1 or 2 hrs max), hot ( I mean so GD hot you almost scald yourself) bath or shower- it's got to burn while in the shower and will actually hurt worse for a few minutes until you get out, benedryl, Ivy Dry. Nail polish will help for a couple hrs but then is a pain in itself.
Next time you are in brush ( Huckleberries and Blueberries are there favorite spots to be), wipe down w/ Clorox ASAP after getting out of the woods-- as long as you get em before they get you it works every time.

Cover each spot on your skin with clear nail polish...Once dry, it will suffocate the chiger to death and the itching will stop within a couple of hrs.

Ah, fun at poor Matey's expense.
I guarandamtee ya'll within 24 hrs he will look and smell like some 1960's skank out of a houchie coochy tent at the County fair--- anything to get rid of the itch, and it will all be tried:
fingernail polish all over, caked on pinkish mud, smelling like a keroscene heater next to a swimming pool--- and still red ass, bleeding sores all over his privates

Found this on the net. Maybe it can help ?

If you have been bitten by chiggers, try to not scratch the affected regions. Scratching could scrape off chigger larvae, but it may also cause increased irritation by breaking the skin and leaving it vulnerable to a more serious infection. The most effective way of removing chiggers is by taking a hot shower and washing the affected areas with mildly hot water and soap, as soon as possible after exposure or possible exposure (an Epsom salt bath may help alleviate pruritus). Once symptoms appear, it may be too late to prevent further bites. Taking a hot bath when already covered with chigger bites may in fact be very uncomfortable and increase itching symptoms. Do not rub and scratch the skin aggressively, but instead gently but firmly rub the irritated skin with warm soapy water. A covering to reduce air exposure over the itchy area, such as calamine lotion, petroleum jelly, or baby oil, may help relieve the pain, but they do not cure the bites. The application of a small drop of finger nail polish (usually clear nail polish) is one of the most popular remedies and is claimed to reduce itching and dry the itchy sores in the least number of days. It seems that pimple cream containing Benzoyl peroxide will kill the mite larva overnight, and if applied quickly enough, can prevent most of the symptoms.[citation needed] Rubbing alcohol is not recommended and it is very painful and no more effective than other measures

If you have been bitten by chiggers, try to not scratch the affected regions.this ***** ain't ever been eaten by Red Bugs. It's like asking a red blooded college kid not to take advantage of a gorgous drunk blond throwing herself at him--- some things just can't be helped Scratching could scrape off chigger larvae, but it may also cause increased irritation by breaking the skin and leaving it vulnerable to a more serious infection.Lady, the dude has bugs inside his skin, a little infection is going to happen regardless The most effective way of removing chiggers is by taking a hot shower and washing the affected areas with mildly hot water and soap, as soon as possible after exposure or possible exposure (an Epsom salt bath may help alleviate pruritus). My ass, nuke the buggers with clorox before they burrow in Once symptoms appear, it may be too late to prevent further bites.Told ya this ***** ain't ever had a case before--- no shit, Sherlock Taking a hot bath when already covered with chigger bites may in fact be very uncomfortable and increase itching symptomsNo pain, no gain. Do not rub and scratch the skin aggressively, but instead gently but firmly rub the irritated skin with warm soapy water.bet she gave advice on the perfect way to raising kids-- now that she has her own, she beats the shit out of em like everyone else- A covering to reduce air exposure over the itchy area, such as calamine lotion, petroleum jelly, or baby oil, may help relieve the pain, but they do not cure the bites. The application of a small drop of finger nail polish (usually clear nail polish) is one of the most popular remedies and is claimed to reduce itching and dry the itchy sores in the least number of days.It does help, but it's no better than a real hot shower/bath and then you have all that hair stuck to your body to deal with--- a man has to draw the line somewhere It seems that pimple cream containing Benzoyl peroxide will kill the mite larva overnight, and if applied quickly enough, can prevent most of the symptoms.[citation needed]see clorox Rubbing alcohol is not recommended and it is very painful and no more effective than other measuresyea, but drinking alcohol is proven effective by 9 out of 10 rednecks surveyed[/QUOTE]
