There may be some bycatch, but I will guarantee you it is a bycatch that is very similar in size to the targetted size and species of fish and most likely less than 5% of the total catch. Gill netting is by no means indiscriminate and catches almost strictly the targetted species in the targetted size when done properly. Get your facts right and know exactly what you are talking about before you start pointing fingers. This sort of blaming is exactly the kind of thing that fishery managers often change their opinions on in favor of commercial fishermen when appointing new regulation.
