    CC OBSERVATIONS......join in

I'm a big center console or big sportfisher enthusiast, but this has to do with center consoles:

While admiring many cc's, I am puzzled as to why the builders make them with an "integrated bracket". I think the builder should build them with a conventional bracket and give the buyer that much more room on his new boat. Everything is pushed forward at least 3 feet, ie; fish cleaning station, live wells. If the boat was built with the conventional bracket, then the buyer would get much more boat. Also, i was very impressed with a boat I saw at the recent boat show. The fit and finish as well as the fish box / storage boxes had lids that were on gas hinges. Man! Someone went the extra mile with that! I hate box doors that slam shut.

I agree with you on the integrated brackets. What do you do if one cracks or breaks? Atleast with a conventional bracket you can always replace it. I think the conventional brackets also provide more flotation.

Are you talking an Armstrong style bracket compared to a euro-transom? A euro-transom ads to the sleek look of the boat and most bigger CCs have doors or gates that allow you to walk out and access this space. On a boat with bracket you need to climb a wall most of the time to get onto the bracket. The euro transom by design is stronger than a bolt on bracket. I have seen quads on a euro transom but only twins on a bracket.

I'm talking about the "bolt on" bracket. It gives the buyer more room on the overall boat. imo

I think the Euro Transom is an excuse by the boat industry to say that a 21 foot boat is really 24 feet long.

AN example. The 2005 21 foot (215) Mako did not have a bracket just a regular transom mount outboard. It was sitting next to a 24 foot (242) Mako with a euro transom. The 21 foot boat had WAY more room in it.

Like I said I think it is just a way to make a 21' boat into a 24' boat. Kinda like adding a pulpit to add a foot or two.

Guess I'll jump in here. I saw plenty of c/cs at the AC show last weekend but the one that caught my eye was built by North Coast. Anyway, Mako claims their bracket is built into the hull from the molding/layup process. It would not be a bad thing (structurally) if it is done this way. Many builders make this claim. I talked to a guy about cutting the stern off my mako 22 squaring it off and installing a bracket for the room! Seems to be a personal pref thing but I like the separet bracket. About the show, I went not to look at boats but to talk to liferaft and t-top reps and came away with a load of good info and a good price on a raft! Every vendor seemed to be very helpfull and spend a fair amount of time talking with me.Lee Green of stalker outfitters went out of his way to talk with me and I thank him for that. He also got me a great deal on the raft. I thought the show was great since I don't usually do shows. My wife and I stayed at the tropicanna and you single guys should go up there on a Saturday and troll Sat. night! What scenery!
