    Carolina fishing???????????????

NC, SC ???? When and where??

With all the Carolina folks and top captains, boats, mates and fishermen on this site and the incredible fishing along that seaboard how about some facts, opinions and information on where and when to fish in the Carolina's??

Lot's of people want to get there to fish and it would be great to know when and where are the best options for people to visit and charter a trip?

    South Carolina, North Carolina?
    Ports/Marinas?
    Distance to best fishing holes?
    Species/seasons?
    Time of year?
    Weather/Sea conditions to expect?
    Best locations for lodging/restaurants/nightlife/visiting also?

This info would be cool as I personally know allot of guys who plan to make a trip there soon and would like to get some real info from the guys on this site.

Thanks in advance for your input...

I fish out of Oregon Inlet, N.C. My boat Little Jeannie, a 45 ft custom carolina built boat is docked at Broad Creek Marina in Wanchese. The newest marina on the Outer Banks. Wanchese is just minutes from the beaches of Nags Head and about a 15 minute ride to the inlet by water. There are two other major marinas, Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and Pirates Cove Marina Most offshore trips range from 25 to 35 miles. Our fishery is basically year round for tunas depending on water temps and currents. I think spring and fall are the best times ,although the tuna fishing has been great all winter this year. Marlins, wahoo start showing up in number in the spring summer and fall as well as dolphin in the summer and fall. Cobias show up in June with a new 116 lb. world record caught last year. Great rock fishing in the fall and winter. We also have some great bottom fishing for Tile fish, sea bass and grouper year round. Sea conditions like anywhere can be from flat calm to down right rough. I prefer not to go on the rough days, I want my parties to have a good time! Theres lots of lodging from motels to rental houses nearby as well as privately owned restuarants with nightly Outer Banks specials. The nightlife is easily found with live music or karaoke.

My personal favorite time of the year is the dolphin fishing the 2nd and 3rd week of June anywhere along Carolina. Plenty of action from Big Phsyco Dolphin!

If I had to pick a time to visit that would be it, hands down. after you get tired of dolphins, head overboard in hopes of a marlin.

Hey, Hey now.....ease off of SC boys. I'm a NC boy born and raised and I know the fishing is better for the most part. But, there is great fishing here as well. The gulfstream this past year was unreal between Charleston and Hilton Head. Double digit shots at billfish on most trips. Edisto Banks and Georgetown Hole are known for the tuna fishing as well. I can honestly say that here on Hilton Head I have seen the best inshore fishing for redfish, trout, and cobia ever. I've fished Pamlico Sound and slayed big redfish, but this here is rediculous. 30-60lb. redfish most of the year from the sound to 20 miles offshore. In the fall, we couldn't get out of them. In the spring, the cobia fishing is good as well. Haven't seen the size of NC fish, but the numbers are far more. Tarpon fishing off of Tybee Island in the late summer can be great. Bottom fishing for red snapper, giant tiger shark fishing in the spring, year round speckled trout fishing is almost too easy. And yes, there are tons of golfers,PGA tournaments, etc.,but thats not everything. The biggest part I enjoy, is the great fishing without the crowds. We can go fishing on a Sat. and actually have room to fish. SC isn't the greatest, but it's far from the worst. If there were more people out fishing and more charter boats here, I think it would change a lot of minds. That being said, I'm still a NC boy for life. I just live in SC.
