    Question "Capturing" video from DVD????????

Yet another mayday as Deep Dunce tryies to modernize... I have been tossing old analog stuff into a machine that digitizes it and burns dvd from it. I have a dvd drive on my computer and can play them. Thats all fine and sugarry sweet but the one program I have "nero" to work with doesn't have an option to capture right from the driver thats built in...

Is there something else I can try???? Some program that won't break the bank that I can run off my drive?

This device has a pass through that would be ok for working with some of my 8mm and hi 8 stuff but to do old vhs with it would be about impossible without splitters monitors and miles of wires...

THIS IS EASY.......... YOU CAN RECORD THE DVD YOU JUST MADE BACK INTO THE DV CAMERA....NOW YU HAVE IT ON DV TAPE......THEN CAPTURE IT BACK INTO YOUR MOVIE PROGRAM

THIS REQUIRES THE CAMERA TO BE IN THE : VCR MODE....YOU HIT TWO BUTTONS AT ONCE ON CAMERA ...ON MY SONY I OPEN UP THE WINDOW AND THERE ARE TWO BUTTONS PAINTED RED (REC)...DEPRESSS THESE AT THE SAME TIME TO RECORD AND START THE PROCESS YOUR DVD FROM A DVD PLAYER

THE CONNECTING CABLE IS A TWO PART PLUG - IN USUSALLY WHITE /YELLOW TO DVD PLAYER ...SOMETIMES 3...AND THEN ONE MALE END TO VCR........THIS CABLE SHOULD HAVE COME WITH CAMERA AND IF NOT...IT IS AVAILABLE AT RADIO SHACK FOR PENNIES

Accccckkkk! I don't have the dv camera yet... There has to be some program that I can take it off the DVD reader and "capture" it all within the unit.
I can run stuff through that device kind of like you're talking about but I have pared hundreds of hours down to a couple hours on the dvds. It would be way tough to go back and look through 100s of hours to get just a few minutes. Also some of the real good stuff is on VHS and thtas in a different room... I can't load hours and hours of that onto my hard drive and with no monitoring capability. Guessing is not an option...

    Try www.videohelp.com

From what I gather you are trying to basically convert the DVD file back onto your computer and save it as ?

This web site has how-tos, downloadable programs (at least they used to) and forums where you can ask questions.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Relax oh Deepest of ones.

In Pinnacle, or I assume most movie programs, you can open the file you want to import by browsing for the correct source.

Go to your capture screen, if you are using Pinnacle a little camera shows up. At the bottom of that camera there is a "settings" tab. Open it and you will see a tab for "capture source". Select your DVD drive.

Check it out and let us know.
