I think its absolutely criminal that I have to not only go through check for my License and again for my passport but have to pay a private company for a card that to date I don't know of a single person who has had to present it... I have used their site to fully make clear to them that I'm not alone in that stance. I also send an email each week to my congressman and senator about it...

I needed it when i entered a secure port in Boston by automobile to go pick up my card ?

I also could have used it dropping off a boat in NY that was being shipped over seas but they let me go after a quick interogation by a NYPD helicopter at bridge level

It is more important not for capts to have it but for truckers to have it for picking up and dropping off ocean bound shipping containers to and from ports.I believe that thats what this is all boiling down to.I was told if A trucker doesnt have A twic card he cant gain access to A secure area without an escort!And A escort is about $70.00 an hour at A min of an hour.Its A shame we where drug into this but by april 15 of this year if you dont have the card your ticket goes right down the tubes!

When I went to the TWIC office in Portsmouth NH to get mine I talked with a trucker that said out of 8 navy yards and the canadian border he used it once that was in DC. $135 thank u very much.

I cant say about other states but can say only about NJ when you have no twic card you can not gain entry! when I went to apply for my twic card last week there was A sign at the gate saying in bold TWIC CARD required to enter and there are guards there to uphold the law or else like I said you need an escort! maybe not in other states but in NJ for sure!
