    Thumbs up

Well said Giantfan and welcome to the site. Glad to see new members getting involved in the SFC community, even if they are Giant's fans

Giantfan, well thought out and stated. Personally, I would fill my tackle shop with what my CUSTOMER's would want to buy and not necessarily with what I want them to buy, but that is neither here nor there. Good post.

Just tossing my hat in the ring. I have 20+ years of offshore fishing experience, some professional. I enjoy reading Capt. Archer's posts. Do I agree with everything? No. But it's his opinion based on years of experience, and for that I'm willing to try some of it. His posts are verbose, but that's his style. I quite enjoy reading them. Very detailed & informative. The bashing is uncalled for, though. You can respectfully disagree with someone without being a J-A.

    Thanks, Capt. Fred.

IM NEW ON THIS SITE AND HAVE REALLY ENJOYED READING FREDS STUFF, THERE ARE ALOT OF OPINIONS AND WAYS OF DOING THINGS WHAT DOES IT HURT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? I READ THE POSTS ON THIS WEBSITE TO LEARN NEW THINGS, NOT TO BASH PEOPLE, IF I DONT AGREE WITH SOMETHING I READ I CAN GO ON TO THE NEXT POST.

BUT...I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WHO DISSAGREE WITH SOMETHING TO VOICE THEIR OPINION IF THEY DO IT TASTEFULLY, IM SURE THERE IS EVEN SOMETHING FRED CAN LEARN FROM OTHER PEOPLE.

    One Persons Observations

    Fred Archer?

My first exposure to Fred's writing was over 6 years ago when I came across his book on shark trolling, at the time I was really dialed into shark fishing and reading this book on Trolling for sharks and Fred' unique way of stating "his case" and his no regard for direct opinions and ratings of other people techniques and tactics was eye opening.
I was awakened to another way to target sharks and it definelty got my attention.
Being from Boston and fishing in NE shark trolling was not a popular method to say the least. So I reached out to Fred online and originally we went head to head on a few issues both being on the stubborn side. I believe we came to a reasonable truce and began an interesting dialogue on fishing and techniques, tactics and stories.
So now I decide to move to Cal and immediatly reach out to Fred and let him know my plans.
Fred offered to meet up and do some fishing, so as soon as I got settled and I took him up on it, we met and I was struck by how open and willing he was to share his knowledge, resources, products and friends in making me feel at home in So. Cal and to see and learn the local fishing scene.
I proceeded to spend a fair amount of time with Fred, Bob and AJ and did plenty of talking and fishing with them locally learning his techniques, ideas and hearing many wild stories including the who's who of fishing.
I have learned plenty from Fred and the most important attribute he possesses is his passion and absolute devotion to the sport, something I and no one I have been around can come close to matching, (his life is fishing and he spends 24/7 immersed in it like no other) his knowledge and connections to the industry is amazing and his contributions I believe are vaster than most people realize.

Does Fred's enthusiasm, intensity, openess, lack of candor on occasion and stubborness cause some issues and altercations with friends and foes?
YES, I believe they do on occasion, and I think he will even admit this, I can say that it has with him and I but that is what it is.

But should he be ridiculed and put down with such harshness because he is trying to make a living along with all the information and help he gives too so many?
    I think not.
If someone has an issue with his aggressive and strong style of writing why not just move on? unless he directly critizes or puts someone down directly or does something so disparaging to the sport or someone involved in it, what is the point of directing personal insults towards him?

This site rocks over all the rest and it seems like a big waste of time to go down these roads.

    Just once even once!!

Just curious if even one time anyone has read or heard Captain Fred Archer put anyone down by either bashing or directly ridiculing the person!! I think not but I want to make sure!!!

    Respect for Capt Archer

He is great fisherman no doubt. I have respect for what he has learned and what he shares.

I have even bigger and greater respect for the man as he served in our armed forces in the past which he shared in a few of his posts. Just remember that about him and others before anyone should drop judgement on any man or woman.

I totally agree. Back in the day when there was a draft and many many people were figuring out how to AVOID combat, Capt Archer chose to serve. Back in those days there were alternate services which allowed you to avoid any threat of combat. The waiting list to join the reserves or some "alternate" duty was long indeed. Those with influential parents pulled strings.

Capt Archer chose to serve. As an old Marine, I respect that.

I can't believe I just ran across this thread (and have no idea about the 'previous' thread that brought this one on)!

All I can say is WOW.

I take it that some folks are upset about Mr. Fred's shameless promotion of his techniques, bars, and books.

He was actually called a "whore"?!? LOL

It was also said that there has been enough ass kissing in this thread...THIS THREAD?!? Step back and look at the entire site...there's been ass kissing going on here for years. This thread doesn't even begin to describe ass kissing.

So if someone (or many someones in this case) is appreciative of Captain Fred Archer for taking the time to bless this site with his knowledge, it's considered ass kissing. Wow.

Mr. Fred promotes his product in his posts. Have any of you ever sat and talked with Admin about advertising (of course, I'm talking about those that don't own a business or don't already pay for advertisement here on SFC)?

    I have.

I've met and talked to John only once. During that visit he told me his philosophy on SFC. I'll not share all of that as it's John's business. But I will say...and everyone that has a business ad in their signature knows it's true...John has no problems with anyone shamelessly advertisiting their place of business here on the board. So why the uproar over Captain Fred Archer?

Mr. Fred will share more information in a single post than most of us have learned to date. And someone is upset that he recommends using SuperBars? Give me a break.

People are concerned about and are asking for content. Mr. Fred is full of it! Well...content, that is (you liked that one, didn't you Mr. Fred?)

Get off your high horse people. Mr. Fred is a wealth of knowledge. YOU are lucky to have him around...whether you think you are or not.

Call him a whore? How disrespectful. I'm sure you could be called many names also...but you won't hear them. Takes a different kind of person I guess.

    Jay
