    Cape May Stripers

Every year myself and a group of guys go to Montauk to go fluke fishing the second week in May. Well it doesn't seem that the season will be open at that time in NY. Time for plan B. Since everyone has already put in for vacation time we still want to go away for a long weekend.

We were thinking of running down to Cape May to see what the early May bass fishing is all about down there.

We all fish the Raritan bay and the bass fishing is great at that time of year, but we would still like to get away for a 4 day weekend and try something new.

Can anyone recommend a marina down in that neck of the woods that has transient slips for up to 4 boats (the largest boat is 34' x 13') and a hotel close by (walking distance) I am going to have 4 people on my boat and I only have two bunks, that's why I have a need for a hotel. (I'm not spooning with my fising buddies)

    A bar/food is also a must.

I would also need some advice on general locations of where to fish.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

If you are looking specifically for trophy stripers... the Suskie flats get real good around that time frame too and may be worth it to you guys checking into it if your looking for a change of pace.

Cape May I would check with Hinch Marina 1st and see what they have availavle. If you want a nice hotel to stay at there are plenty of them down there. Lemar, Madison and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

Harbor View has great bar and food, C- View Inn has a good bar and food same with Lucky Bones. Carneys and Cabanna's are great too for night life.

Charter check out Clean Sweep out of Hinch Marina and there many more to choose from.

Fishing there are tons of spots just depends where the fish are early late etc. Little too tough to tell at the moment. I here that they are here but not biting as of yet

When your down feel free to give a shout if want a report or two as to where to go etc and the bite.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Thanks for the replies.

I will shoot Hinch an email. I looked for hotels near there and the closest one seemed to be over a mile away. I was looking for a marina with a hotel within walking distance.

Is there anything down there like that? If not, I'm sure we could do the cab thing.

    Thanks again.

Mary (LuckyLady), thanks for the plug.

Giantfan, wish we could help you out w/slips but for that size we're pretty tight.

Since you're looking for centrally located in town close to lodging and food (drinks too ), I would recommend either Utsch's Marina (609-884-2051) or South Jersey Marina (609-884-0039), they're both located on the island and close to Lobster House (Raw Bar & Schooner), Lucky Bones and C-View. As for lodging, there are no hotel/motels that are located close to the marinas, the closest you'll find will be about a mile away on Pittsburgh Ave., down the street from C-View, Cape Harbor Motor Inn. Another option would be to check w/a realtor in the area and look into renting one of the condos that are located close to the marinas.

Sorry we can't accomodate your slip needs but feel free to stop by or call us here @ Off the Hook B&T and we'll be glad to get you hooked up w/bait and local info.

If you need anything else or have any other questions feel free to email or call me @ 609-884-0444.

    Have a great vacation!!!!
