    DE-MOREHEAD 8 hours

I just recently made the drive from wilmington DE to Morehead.

It took me 8 hours, the best way i found was 95S to 64E, then 17S/13S to 70S.

It takes about 10 hours to get there from cape may. Just guessing though.

It takes just over 6 hours from Ocean City. S o tack on another 1 1/2 hours for ferry and drive from Lewes. The worst part of the drive is through VA. Becareful of what time you will be driving thorugh VA Beach/ 64.

I go up 17N to Virginia and go across the Bay bridge tunnel and go over the Delaware bridge and it took me 8 hrs. On the return trip I was pulling a boat and couldn't go across the Bay bridge so I came down 95, took me 12 hrs. I have never used the ferry but I heard it is quicker.

Just made this trip a few days ago

9 hours with no traffic traveling at night mostly taking Bay Bridge Tunnel and then 113 up through Dover and over Delaware Memorial Bridge and to hour in SJ. Catch my house is 35 miles plus from Cape May. Everybody that leaves from Cape May area takes the Ferry and down through southern MD and VA shore and across Bay Bridge Tunnel. About 4-5 hours to Bay Bridge Tunnel and another 3 hours plus to Lewes and another couple hours for ferry. They do have a 7:45 pm ferry from Lewes to Cape May. If you were going to Wilmington, DE or points north of Philly then 95 would be the way to go but it Cape May is at least 90 miles or so from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Note: When going home avoid the Virginia Beach highway 64 as it backs up big time before you get to 17 south towards Edenton, NC as rush hour. Try to hit this area right after Tunnel sometime before 3:00 pm or after 7:00 pm on weekdays. Figure with Ferry time about 11 hours or so. Get gas on Eastern Shore as it is the cheapest compared to NC and again in NJ. Got regular last night for $1.97 per gallon in NJ and saw as low as $1.89 in off parkway by AC boat show. Good luck. The only real advantage to the ferry is you can relax for a couple of hours instead of driving and the southern route compared to 95 is there a far less trucks and traffic to contend with but you can fly on 95 if you miss Washington and Baltimore during rush hour. Hinch's is only about 10 minutes from the Ferry

Don't know about north of VA, but I have been making the run from Norfolk to Newport NC (about 10 miles west of Morehead) since the Navy sent me here in 1979. At the speed limit (give or take 5 MPH) it will take you 4 - 4 1/2 hours going down US 17 to New Bern and then US 70 east to Morehead.

A lot better drive than it was 29 years ago!!!!

Watch out for the smokies at either end of the Elizabeth City bypass. The bypass speed limit is 65 and it drops to 55 at the end. The smokies hide behind the median bushes (BIG bushes) and wait for those who don't slow down.

Downside - about 1/4 of the trip is two lane road....from Williamston to New Bern, with the exception of the few miles of Washington to Chocowinity.
