Otherwise normal morning. Wife gone to work. Daughter is on her way to school. I'm organizing tools and tackle for todays projects. Phone rings... A distressed voice on the other end... Oh crap! I can feel it comming. I tense up for the words.
"Mr. C, your daughter has been in a car accident..." then silence...
"Jesus , Mary and Joeseph! Finish the sentence!"
"She seems to be ok"
"Thank you lord and thank you ma'am for the call..."
My chest pounds and head spins as I head to the scene. Gotta remind myself to take it easy. A second wreck would not play out well at a time like this. I come over the bridge and see a few cars stopped. I see skid marks and a large swath of grass torn up. Then I see the old Rolling Tackle Box sitting upright. Wearing a layer of sod and dirt but otherwise unwrinkled. Mini in tears next to it.
My sphincter relaxes... All is good... Some cowardly piece of shit drifted out of his lane and basically laid a PIT maneuver on her and took off. I look at the skid marks length along with the piled up turf and can see she was squirtin pretty good when this went down. Mini is visibly shaken. Rightfully so. Part of me wants to go off about the speed. The other is just so happy she will be joining us for dinner it didn't matter...
I check the car to see that its operating properly. It is... No loss, no injury. God was looking out for her today... I give her the green light to stay home from school and compose herself. Ten minutes after being home she got right back in the saddle and did her day at school...
For any of you that have kids, you know where I'm comming from. Let them know you love them every single friggin day. You never know when that opportunity won't be there... Thanks for listening...
