The main keywords for us really pertain to the islands name with various versions of real estate after it, and the difference between FL and Florida. I researched how to improve ranking, now know more than I ever care to about spyderbots and so on, and cant figure out how to really boost the site. No place really boasts what makes them better than others. I don't believe our competition is that fierce, but I may have to eat my words on that one.

I'm assuming it's Pine Island from your location. What about people that have never heard of Pine Island and are searching for something different? The arrangement and wording of text on your website has something to do with it too.

Our island is really a word of mouth type place. We don't get too many people straying this way while looking at nearby areas as the island is so unique. Maybe I just need to see how to buy these adwords, or see what ones we have already bought, not many as we are not above two people we want to be ahead of.

When you say #1 it's important to distinguish paid ads vs natural search results. The paid ads are usually in bold with a background highlight on the right, or above the natural listings. I agree w Jer that nobody can permanently guarantee 1st listing on natural search.

Either way you need to get into the heads of your customers to determine exactly what words and phrases they are using to find your products. There are tools to help with this.

I agree and am not sure the benefit of the sponsored ads on google. I am just trying to wrap my head around what makes one company stand out from another? I have done a lot of research on this and would like to be knowledgeable in what it takes (not just someone telling me they can do it.). Shopping for the best service provider is in essence what I am looking to do I guess

If someone guarantees you that he/she will get the #1 listing in organic searches in Google/Yahoo, do not trust that person/company your money.

What you need is an SEO (search engine Optimization) person. Rising Tide Media can do a great job for you and is what you are looking for. You need to think of the "Key" words that you want use as no one else knows your business as well as you. Make sure that the "Title" of you site is part of your "Key" words as well as the description of you site. Also a few GOOD reciprocal links is also important to good optimizing. There is a lot to it and feel free to give me a call and I can explain it better and show you on my site what I mean. Having a SEO to do it for you is the best way to go...

I would not buy the adwords, nor would do "pay per click" If you go teh SEO route, bone right they should get you in the "top 10" on google and that is where you want to be. Google Fly fishing NC and see where I pop up and you should get the idea. Keep in mind that sometimes things get crazy with this and you rank will change from week to week but it will come back once it is done. Please give me a call and I can get you on the right page...
