Boaters world files Chap 11

That's too bad. I always thought that Boaters World was a good company that supported sportfishing and fishing tournaments. Here in MD, they put their money behind just about all of the local tournaments. I hope they make it and are able to pay their creditors which includes all the tackle companies that have extended terms. Boaters World going out is not good for the Marine or Tackle Industry.

Don't write them off yet. Chapter 11 means they will be re-structuring, not liquidating. I Imagine the camera stores are in deeper trouble than Boater's World. Last year was a slow year for everybody, and the last thing the bank's want is a bunch of fishing and boating inventory to sell. Keep supporting these guys while they restructure (especially if you want your local store to remain open after) and they may come back leaner & meaner than ever.

But the economy is failing.

I believe we have the wrong crowd running the show.

Taxes, regulatory burden, and litigation are the big three killing business.

very true about ritz-everyone has a photo printer...

seems to me,very few people shop at local stores anymore.most people buy on line.then,when no one shops at the local store,it closes-funny thing happens after the store closes,everyone says they miss the store
boater's world,just a victim of the economy,and the dreaded "price match" customer-these are the guys who get the amazon .com price and go to a local store or one of these box stores,demand the same price and service-these are the guys who want the top line electronics but are really cheap-i witnessed this very thing at a local store-i know the mgr pretty well-i couldn't believe what i seen

The first thing I thought was, boy I'm glad my jigs aren't in there yet. Something like that could crush a small business and has a much bigger trickle down effect, than on boaters world itself.

My second thought was that hopefully it was just the other parts of the business and Boaters World is still solid. It could always be cut away. Their combos are a great entry level purchase most of the time.
