CAPE MAY-- The Coast Guard rescued one man after the 63-foot boat he was aboard sank seven miles south of Cape May Thursday.

The Coast Guard has identified the boat as the Sea Wolf.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a call at 1:35 a.m. from a member of the New Jersey State Police reporting a boat with two people aboard was taking on water.

A MH-65 rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews from Coast Guard Stations Cape May and Indian River Inlet, Del., arrived on scene.

The boat crew from Indian River located both men and reported one was responsive and one was unresponsive. The crew brought the responsive man aboard and the rescue helicopter crew hoisted him aboard the helicopter.

The unresponsive man was unable to be recovered.

The responsive man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.

    He is in critical condition.

Bobby, I am sure more details will come out but the sea conditions were horrible: 29 kts gust to 36kts, wave height 7.9 ft at 5.6 seconds, and a gale warning was posted.

I work for Delaware Bay Launch Service and first heard of this today when picking up a Pilot in the Anchorage this morning. The feeling is beyond spooky when you realize someone and their vessel was lost within 5 miles of your location.

God Bless the men on board and their families.

Those guys just bought that boat and were taking it down to Louisiana. They were just trying to make it to the intercoastal.

Winter time deliverys are not a joke. I understand that sometimes you have to go in the dark cause the days are short. I hope they weren't trying to run all night with just two guys.

    Update

The crew brought the responsive man identified as Eric Hopkins, 42, of Washington, D.C., aboard and the rescue helicopter crew hoisted him aboard the helicopter.

The Coast Guard was unable to recover the unresponsive man identified as Gregory Arlotta, 62, of Fort Myers, Florida.

Police say neither victim was wearing a survival suit.

Hopkins was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.

He was initially reported in critical condition. His condition has been uprated this evening to fair condition.
