    Boat Security

Just a simple question on your open boats, (ie an express or center console) what do or would you take off the boat if you were going to leave the boat at a marina in the water for a 2 week or longer break? These boats look like heaven on earth for a thief.

Definatly take your rods and reels home. I wouldn't worry too much about lures and stuff. Most of these crack head a$$wipes are looking for an easy target and items they can sell quick. Also, if you have electronics that are not flush mounted take them off of the gimbal mounts as well.

Alot of guys hide a key on the boat, hide them well in a non-conspicous place (not in the tackle cabinet/station or step box) get creative.

Will they not crow bar out your flush mounted electronics?
What made me ask this question was just the other day I read an article about someone stealing the C map chip while they were away for lunch not 100yards from the boat tied up!!!!! with time on there side 2 weeks away and everything open you could walk back to a bear hull

This strikes me as a question one might not want to answer on a public forum......

Well, that depends on the security at your marina...London England's marina's might have better security than Ocean Isle ,NC. although having a marina with live aboards is good, so are lights. but to answer your question - anything that's worth money and easy to remove...there's your answer.

I always take the gps/sounder display and all my tackle off my boat. Some people are very trusting when it comes to boats. I have a good friend who had all there tournament king rods and reels stolen off the boat and yet he continues to leave all his electronics and tackle on the boat.
I have good faith in people but the price on some gear is through the roof and I could not imagine leaving it on display unattended.

There are battery powered alarms out there that might be just enough to scare someone off. I've only been broken into once in 30 years and all they took was a pair of bushnell bino's. Rifled through the whole boat looking for $$$ or keys? Which I never leave on the boat every hatch cubby whatever was gone through. 5 other boats were hit that night at my place. Oh I just remembered some shit stain stole a running light fixture off my seacraft once unscrewed it and cut the wires. 2 times in 30 years. Scotty.
