Boat Registration
its time to register the boat! I have a residence in de, primarily live in pa, and like to fish with my friends in jersey. The boat is in md for 2 months in the spring, maybe nc for a month if I'm lucky, jersey for 4 months or so and then to cape cod in the fall. So I guess I'm going to pay sales tax or usage tax in every state?! WRONG!!! no way would i ever do that. I have a place in de, and I'm fully taking advantage of my tax break and register in de- which i feel is my right! Its one thing if I live in jersey and boat year round in jersey, but I don't. All i worry about is jersey with the patrol officers. I have a beautiful slip lined up in cape may right on the end of the marina where its very visible to marine patrol with their binoculars. Do I need to worry? How do i combat this situation without paying nj taxes or looking over my shoulder every 5 mins. I know lots of ppl in cape may have out of state registered boats, how do they do this?

Sit down Shut up And fish
you can legally still register your boat in DE and not pay use tax anywhere, however you by law cannot stay in 1 slip for more than 180 days. I live in jersey, with DE stickers, they never even asked if i had a DE residence. one day the staties were walking down the docks i told them i go back to DE every 2-3 months, they seemed satisfied so if your only in NJ for a few months dont worry about anything. I've had DE registrations in 2 boats for over 10 years without any problems. any questions email me and i give you my cell...dave

Keep the boat moving. Most states allow 60 consecutive days unless you are in a yard for work... make it a rule to never sit still in one place too long.
