Boat Owners Blues
With all the work I'm doing on the other boats my baby girl Deep C hasn't been seeing much action. She's kind of like a taxi cab whos meter keeps on ticking whether she's got a fare or not... Dockage and insurance have recently nearly doubled of what it was a couple years ago so it's not as comfortable to just let her sit and gather dust.
I'm at a crossroads... Even sitting she needs some TLC. Time for new steering seals upstairs and a high pressure oil line below. Do I just keep on keeping on chasing issues and feeding her? Do I turn the heat up on chartering and bring her back hard into service? Do I let her go? If I let her go I could never replace her. Way tough decison...
Being so close to the game sometimes I don't see all the options open to me. Maybe somebody can see something I'm missing that could help make a decision...

Hang on to her Deep, as you asid you can't replace her. Most of the time the other gigs I've had with other peoples boats have been 3 to 5 years max. What will you do when thats over? I'd let her collect dust, at least for now...
In the mean time if something happens you got her to fall back on...

I think you are a two timer and have your eye on something else. Just tell the old girl you are trading her in on a younger one with a faster motors

Can you hire a part or full time captain to run charters on her ? At least enough to pay expenses.

I've thought about "leasing" her to someone whos got clients and no boat but most of the smaller boat caps down here already have their own... More than the money, I just hate to see her sit. When I go north in the summers I don't mind as much cause I don't see her almost every day.
Almost every day I climb up on her and fiddle with something or touch something up. I do get feeling better when I launch her and at least fire her up for a spin around the block. Might just do that tomorrow to shake this funk off...

My wife won't let me sell "Beatsworkin" even though I spend a lot of time on Bruces Cabo.
She said " Its paid for, cheep to keep, if I had to replace it it would cost
6 figures." Another mortage
I do let my retired friend (partner) use it, keeps the cob-webs off.
You need to do necessary repairs on Deep-C anyway to sell it . Turn-key.

You're right... She's bought and paid for. Couldn't replace her. Might consider moving her to the cheaper marina where my unused skiff sits. That one has been with me 23 years, worth virtually nothing but also irreplacable. I really should move that one to the keys and use her for screwing around on the flats and mangrove creeks...
More than likely the Deep C will be my island boat again later this spring so I guess I should get off my duff and finish getting her perfect...
