I cant get the link up, but boat builders were one of the worst due to High Maintenance costs after the purchase of a luxury item.

What does that mean to current owners? Will our investment go up. Because of possibly limited numbers being produced, or does it mean the value will drop. Because it will be considered a luxury item. Any economist types out there?

Well, they also predict oil at least 100 a barrel. That will add to the equation.

Tryin' to be the man, my dog think's I am. marine diesel service owner

    Alex,

That may be what the "expert's" say, but I have a very close personal friend that is an excellent boat builder. He has just finished what I consider to be an excellent choice in boat's. It is in the 32 and 34 foot configuration's, it is trailerable. They can (and are) be powered by a pair of 4 stroke's, IPS, inboard (both diesel), what ever the customer want's. The boat has been designed from the keel up with fishing being it's purpose in life. I don't get impressed with boat's very easily, because I see sooooooo many. Many boat's that folk's go crazy over, I personally wouldn't be interested in owning. I really believe this rig will fit the need's of you canyon guy's because of it's speed and creature comfort's that are not usually seen on this size boat. She has a big pit and helm area, with all the nice stuff down below for the long trip's. I also believe it will be a top notch sea boat for us guy's down here having to deal with the inlet's. I'm telling ya, this will be a real fishing machine that has the ability to make the wife happy too.
The man that is building these boat's build's boat's for Jarret Bay, designed and built some of Fountain's better boat's. He's not a backyard hack. He fishes with me alot and I have known him for many year's (my wife is baking a big lasagna for he and his wife to carry to the boat show as we speak). A customer will only have to talk with him for a few minute's to get that this guy know's what he building. One other thing, if it ain't 100% to his liking, I promise you it won't leave the shop. Frank

I can see "production" boats getting hit, i know Genmar has had a rough time of it,and only recently went into the black due to plant closures and massive layoffs, but custom builds are hot, rich get richer, big name boat builders -Bertram-Ocean-Cabo ect are getting slammed in the used boat catagory so why buy new when you can get a Big Dog for 50 cents on the $, theres a 50 something Ocean listed by HMV for 350K ,thats like 20 cents on the $..Alot of great deals out there..

rybovich is no longer building new boats at this time but the service yards are going off.
the mega marina is full. up to about 240 foot vesels.
the smaller sportfish yard is about half full. up to about 120 foot. ( we have a 45' we are restoring at this location) coming soon all new floating billingham (sp) docks.
with plans to start soon for a third yard in the same area capable of pulling a 300+ foot beast for service.
