    Thumbs up Boarded by USCG

I would like to thank the OC, MD. area USCG. Last weekend we launched our boat on Sat. On Sun. we took it out to dust it off and do a little fluking in the back bays of OC. We were approached by the CG and were boarded. The men in the CG vessel were very polite and professional. After they checked all the needed safety equipment they gave me a clean bill of health and back to fishing. The CG is there for our safety and I thank them for looking out for us.

Last year when I had engine trouble and the Indian River CG came out to help- they were very polite, but all business till they got me back to NorthShore Marina- after all the inspections and paperwork was done- they relaxed and were a great group of guys. Your right- they are there for our safety!

Hope they know that they are appreciated!

They are a A+ bunch of guys and gals. You really don't know it untill you need them and hopefully noone will. However one time I was offshore and watched them fly out a gasoline pump to a sinking boat but someone forgot to check the gas gauge. Yep the sucker was empty.

WHEN I READ BAD PUBLICITY ABOUT THE USCG....I SHRIEK....AND ITS GOOD TO HEAR THE PRAISE !!! GLAD YOU CHEC KED OUT AOKAY.

THEY ARE BOARDING VERY HEAVY IN NC RIGHT NOW.

THE ONLY THING I WISH THEY WOULD DO DIFFERENT IS RECONSIDER NOT TO BOARD OFFSHORE BOATS WHILE FISHING.....SEEMS LIKE A SAFER WAY WOULD BE TO BOARD A BOAT BEFORE IT LEAVES THE DOCK.....OFFSHORE IT MAY BE TOO LATE.........

THEY HAVE BEEN BOARDING CHARTER BOATS 50 MILES OUT THE L;AST FEW YEARS .....SEEMS LIKE THIS COULD BE DONE ON THE ARRIVAL AT THE DOCK.....

I think sometimes 50 miles out they are looking for illegal bluefin etc. Inside the inlet they can't tell where you came from

So true .... after all its not the CG fault that people leave the dock unprepared !! they are just trying to keep everyone safe.

years ago we were offshore and a boat we were fishing with had a crew member get seriously ill ... the AC boys were out there in the heli and lifted him right off the boat and got him the help he needed ....

We also got "buzzed" by one of the Falcon jets while trolling in the canyon !!!! he came right up behind us, totally surprised everyone .... scared the crap out of everyone (yeah..... we all ducked as if they were going to fly right through the tower) we threw toilet paper up to the guy in the tower !!!!

We were boarded this spring as well as nearly every charterboat in Hatteras Harbor.

I have nothing but great things to say.

    Very friendly, and helpful.

    We checked out ok.

Glad to have them watching my back!

Its good to see them out there... Down here I see a lot of them running in from swording. Only got boarded once for a nice friendly inspection which all went well. From what I understand they enter that info into some computer and when they see a clean slate they generally leave you alone. They do show a little class here and don't board while fishing...

Glad your guys were all polite and professional. Down here that holds true but wasn't always like that. I've grown to relax a bit where for years I had an issue with them. We had been boarded down in Islamorada. I had no issue with that but they had a green kid on the bow who kept pointing the air cooled 30 on the bow, at my passenegers... I told him to train his weapon on me or the waterline or we would have a problem.
While inspecting, a little boy in my charter dropped the cooler lid after getting a soda. The kid on the bow swung the 30 and was ready to cut loose. I one stepped from my bridge, pushed the barrel skyward, and got right in his face.
I heard multiple kacking behind me and turned to see forty-fives and M16's all trained on me.
We had a long talk back at the dock and finally it became a non incident...

The guys I see today seem to be sharper. More on the ball. More professional and courteous... Their presence makes me very comfortable. They are in the Bahamas in force and that gives me an added sense of security... Can be lonely over there... Too lonely...

I serverd 10 yeras in the Army I have alot of respect for any service member. Be it retired active duty or reserve/ national Guard. CG personnel see as much danger as all our other forces. From a military stand ponit if you show a sign of respect they will show respect back. As for the weapon incident it should of never been pointed any any person but at the water line. And I would of done the same if it was me in the Capt shoes. You need to take care of your crew and passengers. All I can say is show them respect and be kind and courtious and you should recieve the same back. And like everyone mentioned above they are there if you need help. Safe travels to all.
