    Tried to take a pic of the leader but it didn't turn out. I'm sticking with the 400# mono. I just ordered the momoi 530# xtra hard so I'll use that on the bigger baits.

    400lb should be plenty strong...like bvette said the fish wouldnt have "bit" it it would have gotten wrapped up and then you would have felt roughed up sections right above the break from the bill. i second the shark theory...you probably felt that heavy hit, and then nothing...not typical for a marlin but very obvious of a shark....dont use wire..

    keep usin the 400lb....the mystery bites will always be there...you wouldnt be fishin if you always new what was on the other side of the line.
