    bimini twist or spider hitch?

When forming double line for wind on leaders, is the spider hitch a reliable knot? Does anyone use the spider hitch over the bimini twist when offshore?

I was using both for a while but the bimini has won out now that I use braid is seems to hold better. Now I can't remember how to tie a spider hitch.

I don't use the Spider at all. I have seen to many of them break on other peoples boats and cringe when I see other people tie them on there line...just me, either will work...

We use the bimini , which is a great knot to tie on the dock, but ill tie a spider out on the water . Heres a question how long do you guys make your double? A long double line turns the bimini into a 2 man knot.

big ting wit the spider hitch is ...not cross the lines over each other when pulling tight. It is so easy to have the twist and ....to late by then. I use the hitch in light lines. The Bimini or Australian plat work well.

I don't use a spider hitch on anything, but I think it is ok on line smaller than 20#. And anything 20# and over a Bimina is the way to go.

The bimini twist is a fantastic knot but since I learned the Australian Plait, I just can't go back ! Love that knot !

I use a spider hitch. It's fast and easy to tie and I've never had one pull.

    hitch vs twist

Sp. hitch is fine if you are puting miniscule amounts of pressure on it, like 15lb. test, nothing bigger really. The bimini is the BEST double line knot strength wise. I've seen single Bimini's cacth granders with 55lbs. of drag on them and be just as good as they were before. The Aus. braid is good too, but you need to know how to tie it properly, if not, the top will fold down on itself and weaken your line and then you got to tie the thing again. Good luck
