Is anyone prospecting while you are "White Marlin" fishing in the Mid-Atlantic region ? If so, what have the results been ?

I'll usually prospect with combo or straight lures to find whites. When I switch to them its all about them and a mack or two for the stray blue....
you are one of the best white marlin fishers on the dock why are you asking questions? last year shake your confidence>Doug
I am doing great!!! Lokk forward to seeing you with the dock crew this year... If I learn anything I will be glad to share with you but I am sure you will be giving me pointers again..as this will be a great year...Doug...
Prospecting is when you have someone dumping a bait between your dredges all day looking for straglers that are holding deep or far back in the spread. Not trolling around all day looking for fish which is what I think your implying to.
SeaMent, I have done it a few time but never had any bites on it. After a half hour or so I lose my patience and give up.![]()

If conditions look good and we are not getting a bite, I will dump a long rigger for a while and see what happens. Every now and then we get a bite.
After we are settled in fighting a fish, or while we are backing down I will dump a bait away from the boat- this one can be very effective.
I would have to believe that it works on whites like it does on sails, fishing for sails in Stuart, this is how we're catchin 50% of them. Whitey your right it's gets boring standing there but it sure is nice when one picks you up. Fishing the sailfish tournaments we go in 15 minute shifts that helps alot, someone is dumping one all day until lines out. Franky I've never tried it off the long rigger but will be giving it a whirl this summer, we use the flats off the dredges. Thanks for the response guys
Darn near 100 percent of the time you dump a rigger it will pop out and you have to reset it, but the couple percent of the time you get the extra white it is worth it.
