The battle continues
I have gotten a lot of support from you guys( and gals).
I wanted to let you all know that the war rages on. I have been suffering from colitis (an autoimmune side effect) for about a week now. I have also been suffering from tumor shrinkage!
This is not a bad thing.
I dare not hope for a cure, but I am wondering if we have hit on the next generation of cancer treatment, and if so even if this only buys me time...well its worth it one way or the other!
Thank you all for your love and support...you cannot (and I hope you will never) know how much it means.
I have no Idea what to do but I want to do something that will rock the world for cancer research. I have lived large and intend to continue doing so to the end...however long that takes!
Any Ideas that I can use to make a hell of a noise about this shitty melanoma crap?
I am out of work right now due to the painkillers and the whole heavy equipment/CDL thing...I need to occupy my time 'till the Coho start biting in the sound

When do the Coho show up in your part of the country?
Up in NY on Lake Ontario, they should be there now or very shortly.

Your story is complelling, you have already touched people you dont even know. You have done this through your couragious battle thus far, and you never quit attitude. So many people have lesser problems and just give up. If they could just talk to you and hear your side of life, I believe it would change their thought process and give tham something to live for!
I am a believer that life is in the attitude and heart. Continue to live large Johnny. This is a set back for a short time, and thats all it is.

What about a fishing tournament to raise money for cancer research? If your fishing community is as tightknit as ours (which I'm assuming it is) you should be able to get a ton of participants. Here in Jersey we have an annual striper tournament to raise money for a cancer foundation, High Tides. It's no midlantic $500k, but you don't go to charity events for the big cash pots anyway. You go because they care about the people the event is for. And you might be suprised what local businesses would donate to help with the event.
Definitely praying for you man. Whoever said this life was easy obviously never lived. You know you have friends here, and we care. We may be scattered around the seas, but we're here for you none the less.
Keep up the good fight, keep running the good race. You're an inspiration, to say the least.

Hello Johnny,
great to see you back around, especially with the good news that the tumor is shrinking. We all hope and pray for continued good progress.
It may seem overly simplistic, however, advocating protection from the sun, especially for us outdoorsmen is definitely worth while. No matter how often we hear it it is not often enough. One person staying in the shade, wearing a hat or applying some extra sunscreen is a positive step in this struggle.
Keep rockin'

I like the idea of a fishing tournament to raise money for cancer research. What a great way to get your message out and do something you love at the same time.
Life is for living, Johnny, and I love your spirit in the midst of all this. I watched my own mother battle cancer for 17 years. She was a nurse and felt that attitude was everything and she was right. She beat a lot of odds for a long time.
Keep the faith, my friend. The longer you hang around, the better chance you have at being here when they find a cure for this damn thing.

I like the idea of a tournament. I have no idea what it will take or where I could send the money. I also think these are minor details. My wife (Tammy) thinks its a way for me to give something back too! I think its to late this year...but maybe I can figure out what needs to be done by next year and set something up.
Honestly I have no idea how to do this...I am just going to put my head down and go for it!
Any suggestions?
I have no experience to guide me through this...I am just going to get it done.
I am sick and tired of watching people have to make decisions based on money when they really need to make decisions based on what their bodies need.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance has been there for us from the very begining...and I don't know how to help them yet...I will find a way!
I have no idea what I am biting off...I just know that come hell or high water I want to find a way to make this work!
I have had so many give me everything...unconditionaly...I want to give that back...in spades!
Jesus I have to get permits and all that...
I will bring it up at the Yacht Club meeting on Tuesday...
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
There is nothing that cant be accomplished by a moron whith a noble idea....Right?

Well Yacht club meeting is a good place to start to find a host marina. Be sure to contact local TV and news paper. Contact your senators and congress people and invite them fish in your tournament. Feel free to give me a call, as I work on a Sailfish tournament here...
Glad to here that things are looking a little better, keep the faith and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Johnny,
Also glad to hear of your progress!
Sounds as if the tournament idea is your focus and goal and I wish you all the luck in the world. You might look into the tournaments such as the one in Jersey and the Alice Kelly Tournament here at Pirates Cove, NC. to help you as far as sponsors. God be with you in your Battle!
