MM,
Check out the Carolina rigged worm. I would probably try a tomato color worm or one that has dark sides and red in the middle. A rattle trap is also good if the fish are in shallower water.

Will the fish bite if it's cold out?! Lows are supposed to be in the 40's there this week. By the way, what's a rattle trap?!
here is a pic of a rattletrap and buzz bait. I like the buzz bait because it stays close to the surface and makes for an exciting strike from a bass. If the water is cold the fish will hold in deeper water which means fishing with a carolina rigged worm. as the water warms they will feed in the shallower water and you can switch to the buzz bait. Good luck.
the rattletrap is in bottom rt corner of post
The fish are always feeding. The angler must adapt to what they want. I got this fish yesterday out in Cali. Water temp was 51 and you'd expect the fish to be deep, but I got it in 6' of water next to a rock:
This time of year the big girls are fattening up for the annual spawn. Find the refrigerator and you will find them.
Ok, thanks, Ultralite! That's a nice fish. I'll see if I can match that one!
Have a Happy New Year.
Here's all you need to know about fishing for Large Mouth Bass in the Southeast:
In Georgia, ANY color plastic worm... as long as it's Green Pumpkin.
In Florida, ANY color plastic worm... as long as it's Red Shiner.
In Georgia, use 6" worms... Texas Rigged
In Florida, use 10" worms... Carolina Rigged
Most lakes in Florida are shallow, so look for beds (easy to spot, they look like circular sand spots about 3' across... same thing we look for in Texas for Reds on the flats). if you are fishing southern Florida in January, the big females will be on their beds... Late January, first of Feb, they will be on their beds around the Orlando, St John's area. Fish it around the full moon.
Also, get a pack of Spring Lizards in the above mentioned colors and sizes ... Bass HATE spring lizards as they tend to eat their eggs. Drag one of these slow through a bed and get ready to rip lips. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0023188115885a.shtml
