never had it but did some research just now..

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of cancer, with about a million new cases estimated in the U.S. each year. Basal cells line the deepest layer of the epidermis. Basal cell carcinomas are malignant growths--tumors--that arise in this layer.

Basal cell carcinoma can usually be diagnosed with a simple biopsy and is fairly easy to treat when detected early. However, 5 to 10 percent of BCCs can be resistant to treatment or locally aggressive, damaging the skin around them, and sometimes invading bone and cartilage. When not treated quickly, they can be difficult to eliminate. Fortunately, however, this is a cancer that has an extremely low rate of metastasis, and although it can result in scars and disfigurement, it is not usually life threatening.

GOOD LUCK RANDY!! WEAR SUNBLOCK BUDDY! NO WORRIES!

    Basal Cell

    Randy

I've had three basal cells, all small (less that 4-5 mm) and on the arms. Each was removed and cured with local anesthesia in the physicians office. Did not effect work or fishing.

Almost all basal cells will be cured as long as they are small and have not been ignored for years. Options to excision include freezing, dessication (burning them off), and creams. The decision as to which process to use depends on size, location, and whether you are willing to risk a slight recurrance rate with the non-excision approaches. Best to take the advice of a qualified dermatologist or surgeon.

No question that early detection is key. Early biopsy can also pick up on the real bad actor---melanoma.

Bottom line--do not ignore changes in moles or any new skin lesions.

Where did they find it ?

My brother got it oh his face right next to the corner of his mouth, docs said no problem , we can treat it with a laser, we can remove it. They removed it kept comin back, they kept sayin no problem......did final remove it ,but they never really checked to see if it spread. 3 years later was in his lymph nodes in his neck. They got it with chemo and radiation and he is ok now, but he was bull shit that the doctors didnt think of that .

Make sure the doctors check and double check, and then get a sceond opinion.

Didnt mean to scare you, just dont want you to go thru the same ordeal

You should have a complete skin check by your dermatologist every 6 months to a year. My mother has had it. Like everyone said, if you catch it early its almost always not a problem.

I just had something similar to it taken off the top of my head in Jan.

The doctor said it acts the same as basal cell but a little slower. Forget the name, sorry.

He did what was called a Moe's surgery at the office. They numb the area and take a little bit at a time, they take the piece that they cut out and look at it under a microscope to make sure they got it all. The doctor described it as a mellon baller type thing.

He took three samples before he felt he had it all.

It was sore for a couple of days but nothing real bad.

If it's on your face or head, make sure you go to a good guy so you don't get a scar. Lots of little tiny stiches is the trick and he also had stiches inside so there wouldn't be a depression in my head where he took the meat out.

You will be fine, it's no big deal.

    Good luck.

Sorry about your bro, that sucks. I hope you didn't take the It's no big deal thing the wrong way. I know it's serious stuff. I was talking about the Moes surgery.

Wife had her third go with it recently. She barely mentioned it exept that it was on the back of her shoulder and needed me to change the bandaid... So from her point of view I would have to say she consideres it no big deal...

If caught early, it shouldn't be a big deal...cut it out and go forward...My aunt had it 10 yrs ago and is fine today...my prayers are with you.

UVB is what gives you a sunburn...UVA is what caused skin cell damage thus causing cancer.

Do the research and be proactive...

Look into sunscreens that contain the ingredient Mexoryl...Just approved by the FDA a yr or two ago...Currently only sold in the US as women's facial creams...You can buy the sunscreen on ebay, Canadian or European online shops...

Sunscreens containing Mexeryl have been in Europe, Canada and Aust. for about 15 yrs...Unlike US sunscreen brands, Mexoryl is very stable and studies have shown Mexoryl is one of the few ingredients that protects from the short UVA rays.
