For those of us in denial, we say "sporty" instead of "breezy'.

Day 1 was a bit sporty. We left the dock after daybreak and went through a washtub at the mouth of the inlet. After damn near taking the 'Taxi out of the water, and seeing some wide open kids eyes, we pulled her back to 10 kts and made our way to the sea buoy looking for kings and sails.

Note to self: don't try to catch kings on dink rigs.

Had about 8 kings bite us short, caught one snake that was a bit small and he went back in. Went 0-2 on sails, we need to bring that percentage up a bit.

But I'll tell ya. Getting out and fishing is fine, but if anyone was aroung the docks last night (as it was last year and it will probably be tonight), watching all the kids runnign around with light tackle catching pinfish, sea bass, snapper blues, hogfish, you name it......that's what this tourny is about. Today they were weighing in pinfish at the scales for kids who didn't make it out. 1st class. Leave your ego at the door, just a bunch of very good fishermen letting fishing take a back seat. That's why I like this event.

Tomorrow is forecast to be a bit "sportier" than today, huffing out of the NE. That makes for an ugly stream. I think we'll be back chasing kings and sails tomorrow, and looking forward to the awards ceremony. I hope Admin gets a picture of the trophy table, you're never seen so many trophies and awards in your life.

Got to meet admin's family last night, what a great bunch of people. His son Colby is a fishing fool, Johh's got quite a partner in training there.
