KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (AP) -- Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized Monday morning after complications from his breakdown at the Preakness last May.

"We just reached a point where it was going to be difficult for him to go on without pain," co-owner Roy Jackson said. "It was the right decision, it was the right thing to do. We said all along if there was a situation where it would become more difficult for him then it would be time."

That news has just ruined my day. I was so sad to see such a great animal pull up lame in the derby.

I got to tell you...I was absolutely dejected when I heard this news. I was pulling for that horse, God knows why. Not a horse racing fan, but he really captured everyone's attention and fought valiantly to recover from such a horrific injury. Really is a shame...such a magnificent animal.
